The recent Skrull-based project shocked audiences by revealing that War Machine himself was one of the shape-shifting aliens. Not only that, but the swap might have happened as early as Captain America: Civil War.
This understandably led to plenty of backlash regarding the decision, with many fans exclaiming that it ruined key MCU scenes.
The main example used was Tony Stark's death in Avengers: Endgame, where Don Cheadle's character is at his best friend's side when he dies. It's much less impactful when audiences learn that it was actually just a random Skrull named Raava.
Marvel Studios' big Skrull twist for Don Cheadle's Colonel James Rhodes probably retconned Avengers: Infinity War's final scene—making it worse.
The sequence in question is just after Thanos' Snap goes off and people start disappearing from Wakanda and the rest of the world, with Rhodey being one of the Avengers who lived to fight another day.
Rhodey can be seen wandering around and looking for his friends and heroic comrades. Then, he is seen alongside his teammates mourning the loss of half the team—though, this isn't the real War Machine, but Raava instead.
In many ways, the reveal this wasn't Rhodey expressing concern for his fallen comrades greatly hurts the emotional stakes of the shocking scene.
After all, not only does Raava lack any connection to these characters - taking away all the impact of Rhodey's reaction - but she is also actively deceiving those around her and may even be happy to see Earth's Mightiest Heroes fall.
War Machine's concerned post-Snap cries of "Sam" as he searched for the fallen Avenger suddenly ring hollow when one realizes this was not the Rhodey who likely grew close with Sam Wilson over the years, but rather an imposter.
Needless to say, the actual Rhodey has a lot of catching up to do after possibly being sedated by the Skrulls for almost a decade, meaning he missed all the game-changing events of Infinity War and Endgame.
Despite this observation, it is important to note that even Secret Invasion director doesn't consider the timeframe of Rhodey's swap to be "definitive" and that it's still open for interpretation.
This gives Marvel Studios plausible deniability and the chance to change the details at a later date if there's enough uproar. Needless to say, this negative reception probably qualifies.
If it does change, Marvel will likely say that it happened after the Endgame battle—maybe Rhodey was just in the hospital for some check-ups.
As questionable as the Civil War swap is, at the very least, it'll give the character quite an interesting starting point for Armor Wars, where he is the main character. Waking up in a world where your best friend sacrificed himself to save the world from annihilation is a heavy burden, and that's only part of it.
Avengers: Infinity War and Secret Invasion are now available to stream on Disney+.
The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles have been knocking around pop culture, kicking ass and eating pizza, for four decades—and the new animated movie, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem, reboots the franchise for a new generation.
This time around, the heroes in a half shell Leonardo, Raphael, Donatello and Michelangelo are voiced by Nicolas Cantu, Brady Noon, Micah Abbey and Shamon Brown Jr., while their friend and ally, budding reporter April O'Neill, is played by The Bear's Ayo Edebiri. Martial arts movie star Jackie Chan plays their adoptive father Splinter, and the movie's main antagonist Superfly is voiced by Ice Cube, backed up by a supporting cast of impressive cameo voices which include Paul Rudd, Rose Byrne, John Cena, Maya Rudolph, and Seth Rogen, who also co-wrote the script.
While Mutant Mayhem is a self-contained movie and offers up a fresh version of the turtles' origin story, this project was also clearly designed to set up future installments in the franchise. And if there's one thing that we've all learned from over a decade of Marvel movies, it's that there's no way to tease a sequel like including a stinger after the credits.
The movie does feature an epilogue, but don't worry, you won't have to stay seated and wait for the entire credits to roll before seeing it.

In a mid-credits sequence which plays almost as soon as the film is over, we catch up with Leonardo, Raphael, Donatello and Michelangelo in a video diary as all four brothers adjust to their new life at high school, even attending prom, while April continues her investigation into TCRI.
But then the audience viewpoint pans away from the turtles, and we see that they are being spied on by TCRI executive Cynthia Utrom (Maya Rudolph), who still harbors a grudge against all mutants created by the "ooze" which transformed the turtles. But she is not alone: the final shot of the mid-credits scene reveals the silhouette of the Shredder, arguably the most iconic villain in TMNT history, who will undoubtedly be causing trouble when the sequel comes around.

Sebastian County: Life flight helicopter on crash scene KFSM 5NewsonlineA city centre street was been cordoned off this evening after a coach crashed into scaffolding surrounding a building. Charlotte Street, just off Portland Street, was taped off with both police and paramedics at the scene following the collision shortly before 6:30pm.
There was a Megabus liveried coach inside the cordon, with its digital display saying it was a Glasgow M17 service.
One eyewitness said the coach collided with scaffolding which currently surrounds a building on the corner of Charlotte Street and Portland Street, as it turned from the main road into the side street..
Police said scaffolding then fell onto the vehicle, causing it to be evacuated. One man suffered injuries that have been described as 'minor.'

Paramedics, police and fire crews all attended the scene which is close to the Yates bar on Portland Street and also a short distance from Chorlton Street Bus Station where several Megabus services operate from.
The witness said there was broken glass visible on the floor. The traffic service Inrix said a number of bus services were diverted as a result of the road closure though it is now understood to have re-opened.
A Greater Manchester Police (GMP) spokesperson said: "Police were called to reports of a road traffic collision on Charlotte Street at 6.24pm this evening (Friday 4 August 2023).
"Scaffolding collapsed and landed on a bus, causing the bus to be evacuated. One male suffered a minor injury and was treated at the scene. Colleagues from NWAS and GMFRS were also in attendance."
Megabus have been approached for comment.
Donald Trump has arrived at the Washington, D.C., courthouse where he will be arrested and arraigned today on charges related to a plot to overturn the 2020 presidential election results. See some images from the scene below.
The atmosphere outside has the feel of Hollywood Boulevard: vendors selling T-shirts, a Trump impersonator hoping to strike gold and competing speakers with amplifiers claiming that the former president either deserves to be in jail or that he really won the election over Joe Biden.
The crowd outside thinned a bit once the arraignment started, and someone cranked their music up to play Kool and the Gang’s “Celebration.”
There still were occasional arguments between Trump supporters and opponents. It was difficult to discern if one exchange — in which two speakers battled over January 6, Covid and Elon Musk — was real or merely performance art.

Spotted in the crowd were Jason Selvig and Davram Stiefler, aka The Good Liars, who said that they have been to all three indictments so far.
“It is a circus like all the other ones, but I would say it is smaller than the other two indictments,” Selvig said after interviewing a Trump supporter dressed in a tricorn hat and colonial attire.
“Maybe the Trump supporters are losing interest in it — I am not sure,” he added. “There are maybe 30 Trump supporters here.”
“It’s a little bit of Groundhog Day all over again,” Steifler said. “We’re seeing these indictments come one after the other, and they are all starting to feel the same. This one is a little calmer than the others, for whatever reason. Maybe people are staying away because they think the FBI is going to frame them.”
The media presence outside the E. Barrett Prettyman United States Courthouse, just blocks from the Capitol, was certainly the largest in recent memory. Satellite trucks lined the sidewalk along Pennsylvania Avenue, providing a bit of a shield from the carnival atmosphere as reporters did their stand ups. The building complex itself was surrounded by yellow police tape, and snowplows blocked some streets for extra security. Along C Street, spectators gathered to try to catch a glimpse of Trump’s motorcade as it came to the side entrance, but it was merely a fleeting moment.
Dion Cini said he also has been to all three arraignments. “Why wouldn’t I want to witness history firsthand If I knew 9/11 was going to happen on 9/10, I would have been in New York to see it happen. Because that is exactly what is happening right now. The Civil War. I want to see that. This is a travesty what is going on today.”
Cini was holding a large Trump flag, but he said that he’s made even larger ones. “This one’s a little guy. It’s about 18 feet long.”
“Trump said a few years ago that if I shot somebody on Fifth Avenue, people would still vote for me,” he said. “And I agree with that. So this pales in comparison to that. So I love Donald Trump as a man, as a leader and as president.”
Holding a sign that read, “Lock the traitor up!,” Eric Lamar of Washington, D.C., said, “I think this is a moment to celebrate the American justice system — the fact that Donald Trump. who is a former president and a current criminal. is going to face justice really for the first time in the form of a magistrate judge reading out the charges that a grand jury has proffered against him.“
Like many of the most visible demonstrators, Lamar got into occasional verbal tiffs, telling a Trump supporter that their loyalty to the former president was like cult. At one point a Trump supporter responded only by yelling into a amplified microphone. There was no signs of physical confrontations.
Jason Scoop, a standup comedian, drew crowds around him as he imitated Trump, often pulling in passersby for his material. This, too, was his third arraignment, as he had shown up in New York in April and Florida in June, ready to entertain in his blonde wig.
“I’ve done comedy for 10 years. I’ve done impersonations since third grade. But everything really took off for me after indictment number one,” he said.
How does this compare? “I don’t know much about D.C. but this pales in comparison. I mean the first one, you had antifa fighting with the MAGA hats and then someone on a unicycle comes by and breaks it up. I was crazy. It was like a mushroom trip. And then the second one was Miami and a lot hotter. Even the building — you look at the first one and it was a typical courthouse. The Miami one was like a turquoise blue, all glass building. It was more of a whatever party atmosphere. And then this is Washington, D.C. It’s like, whatever.”
