Sad, surreal scene in Los Angeles before Lakers' first game since Kobe Bryant's death - USA TODAY

LOS ANGELES — The heartsick scene here at the Staples Center on Friday seemed to keep getting bigger and sadder and more surreal.

A few hours before the Lakers played the Portland Trail Blazers, a flock of doves flew up from the plaza outside.

Down below, a quiet congregation of basketball fans gathered again to mourn, writing messages to their perished hero on the ground and offering pieces of art as gifts to the grieving.

“Tonight, I’m not going to the game,” said impressionist painter Reza Safa. “I’m just going to paint.”

He painted as people watched, adding careful strokes to a work he called “Carry Me Dad.” It depicted Gianna Bryant on the shoulders of her father Kobe, the Lakers legend, both of whom died Sunday with seven other people in a helicopter crash in Calabasas — an accident that sent shockwaves of sadness the world over.

This was the first time the Lakers played since that tragic accident. And it felt like a state funeral, dwarfing in emotional importance the game itself.

At 7:25 p.m. PT, the lights went off inside the area, sparking chants of “MVP!” and a star-studded tribute to Bryant. Singer Usher started it, belting out a soulful rendition of “Amazing Grace” as he stood on the court between two giant displays of Bryant’s two Lakers jerseys -- Nos. 8 and 2 -- in gold flowers.

Cellist Ben Hong then took Usher’s place and played for the crowd as a video of Bryant played on the screens above the court.

“You guys will always be in my heart,” Kobe said in it. “Thank you, thank you, from the bottom of my heart."

R&B music group Boyz II Men followed with the national anthem, crooning with emotion before the microphone was handed to Lakers star LeBron James. He spoke publicly for the first time since the tragedy.

“I want to continue, along with my teammates, to continue his legacy not only for this year but for as long as we can play the game of basketball that we love, because that’s what Kobe Bryant would want,” James said. “So in the words of Kobe Bryant, `Mamba out.’ But in the words of us, `Not forgotten.' Live on brother.”

Fans without tickets came from hours away just to honor Bryant, including Chris Huitron, his wife Monique and their daughter, age 5. They got married on “8-24” last year because of their shared love for Bryant. Chris Huitron said he felt he owed it to Kobe because of how he helped him through a challenging childhood of moving around to different schools. Wearing his Kobe jersey to school helped him break the ice with strangers.

“I was making friends because of that,” said Huitron, who drove down from Nipomo, about two hours north. “I was the new guy in school and had no friends. People saw I was a Kobe fan and a Lakers fan, and it helped me make new friends.”

He said tickets for the game were too expensive, but Friday was their only day off. “We made a trip just to pay our respects,” he said.

NBA ALL-STAR GAME: Teams will honor Kobe and Gianna Bryant with special game jerseys

Others wore their Lakers jerseys, wrote messages on poster boards and observed piles of memorabilia and gifts on the ground outside, including shoes, photos, candles, flowers and basketballs.

This is the next step in a long wake for Los Angeles, whose loving bond with Kobe was unlike that of any other celebrity. It was almost like he was a city superhero, having started his pro career here in 1996 at age 18 and then growing up, up and away but never leaving. He played for only one NBA team, the Lakers, for an entire generation — 20 straight years — and won five NBA championships, generating countless indelible memories for fans.

By contrast, in baseball, the Angels in Anaheim and the Dodgers in L.A. haven’t won a championship since 2002 and 1988, respectively. The NFL’s Rams didn’t return to L.A. until 2016 — after 21 years without any NFL football in Los Angeles. The Kings in hockey won an NHL title in 2014 but don’t capture the public’s attention the way the Lakers do when they’re winning.

“He was a cocky young man, but he always backed it up,” said Jason Nguyen, who brought a floral arrangement in purple and gold and stood it up next to the growing pile of gifts on the ground outside the arena. “We’ve just seen him grow and grow and grow. And you’d see progress and maturity. He just exploded. He just took over and brought us championships.”

Before Kobe, Lakers legends Magic Johnson, 60, and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, 72, were among the few who might have occupied the same stratosphere in terms of success and tenure in Los Angeles. Perhaps that’s why news of Kobe’s death reminded some of Johnson’s shocking announcement in 1991 that he was retiring immediately because he had tested positive for HIV.

Like Kobe, Johnson then was in the prime of his life and a transcendent star in "The City of Angels." He was only 32 at the time, when HIV was considered a death sentence. Back then, it seemed like a sad warning that his days were especially numbered. But in this case, there was no warning, and everybody’s still trying to process it. Kobe was only 41. He leaves behind a wife, Vanessa, and three other daughters.

“I wish I could just hand this to Vanessa,” said Lisa Jackson, an artist who held a plaque made of clay depicting Bryant and his daughter. Jackson said she started making the piece when she found out about Bryant’s death Sunday.

“I really don’t even have a plan for it,” she said. “I’m just out here with it. Whatever happens, happens. You know, I just felt that this is where I put my tears in.”

Another Kobe fan from nearby Orange County stopped to write a message on the white poster board outside. He said he wanted to express how Kobe gave his family a reason to get together regularly before he retired from the Lakers in 2016.

“One big thing for us all to do together was to watch the game,” said Matt Bucaro of Yorba Linda.

Now they came together to grieve, each trying to contribute something as the Lakers warmed up inside. Yellow T-shirts were placed on all the seats in the arena before fans were allowed in. They bore Bryant’s name and numbers, one side with an 8 and the other with a 24.

On the plaza outside, the painter said he needed more time to perfect his piece: "Carry Me Dad."

“This one I started right after the incident,” Safa said. “It’s got a long way to go. It needs a few more days.”

Inside Portland, Maine’s Wildly Ambitious Music Scene - Rolling Stone

'The Sinner' star Bill Pullman dishes on 'violent' crash scene - New York Post

Harry Ambrose is at a crossroads at the beginning of Season 3 of “The Sinner.” The veteran detective, played by Bill Pullman, could retire easily. Some of his colleagues in the police department in Dorchester, NY, particularly the younger ones, would applaud that decision. The wear and tear of the job — Harry suffers from sciatica — are evident.

Yet, when Harry goes out on a routine investigation of a late-night car accident, he becomes all fired up again to stake his reputation on the solution of a crime. The corpse of a middle-aged man, Nick Haas (Chris Messina), is sticking through a car windshield on the access road to a house owned by an enigmatic painter, Sonya (Jessica Hecht). As Harry learns, there was a passenger in the car, Jamie Burns (Matt Bomer), a high school teacher who waited quite a while before dialing 911 to report the crash.

The mysterious and dark relationship between these two men, college buddies who have not seen each other in 18 years, forms the crux of his season’s mystery. The investigation pulls Ambrose way out of his comfort zone as he learns about Haas and Burns’ affinity for the philosophy of Friedrich Nietzsche and the principle of the “Übermensch” and how that made them take dangerous risks in the hope of proving their superiority.

Pullman, 66, spoke to The Post over coffee and a blueberry bran muffin at the Grey Dog cafe near his West Village apartment. (He also has homes in Montana and California.)

Bill Pullman’s detective, Harry Ambrose (inset), investigates the death of accident victim Nick Haas (Chris Messina) in Season 3 of “The Sinner.”USA Network

Were you on set when Chris Messina appeared to have gone through the windshield?
Yeah, that was him. Oh my God. He was on his back on the hood of the car. It’s so challenging to do those uncomfortable scenes. You have the sense that it was a very violent death. An injury to the gut means you bleed to death very slowly.

When they brought this new story to you, how did you react, based on the show’s first two seasons?
There was always this feeling that there would be this [Fyodor] Dostoyevsky, “Notes From the Underground”-style encounter that brings [the show] from the personal trauma that had been the hallmark of the first two seasons, encountering people with some personal trauma, to something larger. And that sense of being outside the law and how you can rationalize that. Übermensch. I’m special. And I’ve been given this ticket to rise outside of what everybody else has to do. Jamie Burns is fluid, a shape-shifter. He goes from being incredibly arrogant to being very vulnerable and needy.

Do we find out exactly what Jamie and Nick were getting up to in college?
You see quite more about that. It’s both repugnant and compelling.

There is a connection between Harry and Sonya, the painter of male nudes. Does she put the moves on him?
You’re putting your sword against my throat. She triggers something in him that makes him think I should be more available to somebody, be more vulnerable, and maybe I should try this. At the same time, he thinks something like this always goes bad.

Do you see “The Sinner” going on for another year or two?
After the first year, I thought, “How is this going to be a series?” At this stage of life I don’t feel that I’m needy. Something always comes along. But I am still a little surprised at how engaged I am. And I avoided [television] for so long. I wasn’t a watcher of television growing up. Now I feel like I’m in a long Dickens novel.

Philly chefs make scene at James Beard House in NYC as part of a Visit Philly partnership - The Philadelphia Inquirer

NEW YORK — Over bay scallop with truffle and pickled roses, Dungeness crab over bolted wheat pastina, and smoked maitake mushrooms with malted grains, plum pipian, and black truffle, Philadelphia’s love-in with the James Beard Foundation continues.

This week, Philadelphia chefs took over the landmark James Beard House, a brownstone in Greenwich Village, for the first two of four takeover dinners this year attended by influencers.

It is part of a new partnership between Visit Philadelphia, the city’s tourism-marketing agency, and the nonprofit organization of food professionals.

The goal: Talking up Philadelphia as a culinary-travel destination.

In addition to the four Beard House dinners, Philadelphia will host the 2020 Beard Awards nomination announcement on March 25 (at the Barnes Foundation) as well as a Taste America dinner (at Spice Finch) that will feature chef-owners Jennifer Carroll and Billy Riddle with chef Vishwesh Bhatt of Snackbar in Oxford, Miss.

In addition, a new series called the James Beard Restaurant Collective will be held in the Philadelphia area in August. It is a partnership between the Center City District and the foundation.

Visit Philly’s total financial commitment has not been calculated, a representative said.

As part of the Visit Philly-Beard partnership, last year a gaggle of Philadelphia chefs were shipped to Pier 60 in New York City to cook for the foundation’s annual media awards, putting Philadelphia in front of hundreds of journalists and food and travel influencers from around the country. Visit Philly had, in effect, bought itself a place at the PR table in a first for a city tourism agency.

This year’s four-dinner series will bring the partnership closer to home, as it were. Beard, the prolific cookbook author and teacher, lived in the house on West 12th Street for 12 years before his death in 1985.

It’s a food lover’s dream setting. You walk through the front door directly into the kitchen and proceed to a two-story atrium for cocktails. Upstairs in his former apartment are two dining rooms, plus a nook with a single table in his former bedchamber. Look up. The mirrored ceiling, pointed out during the opening remarks at the Jan. 29 dinner, drew titters from the 55 attendees.

Jan. 29′s headliners were Nicholas Elmi (Laurel, In the Valley, Royal Boucherie), Jon Cichon (Lacroix at the Rittenhouse), and Jon Nodler and Samantha Kincaid (Cadence). On Jan. 30, the guest chefs were Ed Crochet and Justine MacNeil (Fiore), Anthony Andiario (Andiario), and bartender Michelle Cudia (Tria).

At Jan. 29′s dinner, hors d’oeuvres included foie gras and potato snacks with cocoa nib and Concord grape; bay scallop with truffle and pickled roses; and duck and foie gras pates en croute. Each chef had a course, with Elmi preparing the Dungeness crab dish, Nodler the mushroom, Cichon doing lamb two ways, and Kincaid wrapping with ricotta mousse cake. Rival Bros. sent the coffee, and restaurateurs Valerie Safran and Marcie Turney, whose culinary empire includes Marcie Blaine chocolates, provided boxes of Philly-themed chocolates.

Jan. 30′s dinner included vitello crudo, with blue cheese, Tardivo radicchio, and Jewel raisins (from Andiario); Swiss chard pansotti (Fiore); caombas (dove-shape pasta, by Andiario); peposo (a Tuscan stew, Crochet), and dolce di riso with citrus, yogurt, and orange-swirled gelato (MacNeil).

The third dinner, April 21, will be vegan-themed including Rich Landau and Kate Jacoby (Vedge, V Street, Fancy Radish), Aimee Olexy (Talula’s Table, The Love, et al.), Rachel Klein (Miss Rachel’s Pantry, my daughter), and bartender Richie Tray.

June 11′s will include Kiki Aranita (Poi Dog Philly), Judy Ni (Baology), Ange Branca (Sate Kampar), and bartender Resa Mueller.

Tolak Pelindo II Kelola Pelabuhan Batuampar, Asosiasi Pengusaha Pelabuhan Ancam Mogok Kerja - Batam Pos

Persoalannya nantinya, lanjut Osman, kalau Pelindo II masuk, apakah mereka mampu membawa apa, efeknya apa.

(gas)

Scene from the Senate: Lamar Alexander made a late-night exit moments before dropping his statement on witnesses - CNN

Only a few minutes before, Tennessee Sen. Lamar Alexander had himself left the Capitol through the east-facing carriage door, leading out to a plaza where cars awaited to whisk lawmakers away. Having spent the day surrounded by reporters, Alexander was again swarmed as he descended the steps and crossed the Capitol plaza in the cold. The questions, which came in rapid-fire succession, were all essentially the same: Would he support calling witnesses?
In his calm, genteel Southern accent, Alexander assured the press they would receive his statement soon, that he had already informed McConnell of his decision, and that the statement would speak for itself. Clutching a set of briefing papers under his arm, Alexander ducked into the passenger seat of a black car, and drove into the night.
Several minutes later, at 11 p.m. sharp, Alexander's lengthy statement landed in the inboxes of the handful of reporters still standing outside. The three-term Republican would vote against allowing witnesses, denying Democrats the chance at having 51 votes on the issue.
Alexander's statement confirmed the consensus that had been building all week among GOP senators, that whatever Trump did with aid to Ukraine, it did not rise to the level of an impeachable offense.
It also ended weeks and days of drama over how long the trial might go and to what extent more politically damaging information about the President's hold on aid to Ukraine might emerge. While the tension built in the final hours of Thursday's question-and-answer period, the moment of Alexander's announcement at precisely 11 p.m. deflated weeks of speculation. The impeachment trial is now effectively finished, and Trump is on a glide path toward acquittal.
For the previous few days, it seemed possible, if not probable, that the trial could fall out of the Majority Leader's control. McConnell had sought to thwart any surprise moves from his members but could not prevent the bombshell news on Sunday that John Bolton, the former national security adviser, might testify that Trump had directly tied the hold to politically-motivated investigations.
Reporters reach out with their cell phones and audio recorders trying to get a statement from Sen. Lamar Alexander as he passes by during a recess in the Senate impeachment trial of President Trump
Even before the pressure to call witnesses rose at the beginning of the week, Alexander had long been considered the most likely decisive fourth vote for witnesses needed to force the issue. A relative moderate in the increasingly conservative GOP conference, Alexander is also retiring at the end of his term this year, potentially liberating him to make a stand against his party if he were so inclined.
But he is also a close friend of McConnell's and less willing to buck the GOP conference -- a group he had presided over as chairman for four years a decade earlier. It all underscores that no matter how damning the Bolton news, it was always going to be a longshot for Democrats to get their desired witnesses if the decision turned on a faithful party man like Alexander.
Either way, Alexander had studiously avoided tipping his hand after Bolton's revelations came to light. All week he refused to talk to reporters asking about his views. He was among the more attentive Republican senators during arguments, but he rarely showed any emotional reaction to what either the White House lawyers or the Democratic managers had to say. While other senators occasionally nodded their heads or threw up their hands, Alexander had been nearly as stoic as his friend McConnell.

Signs of a decision

But by early evening Thursday, after days of waiting, Alexander began to show signs he had made a decision. All day, he had been seen at his desk in the chamber reading a book, off and on, about the history of presidential impeachments. Alexander asked his first question of the trial, about comparing the bipartisanship of the past impeachment proceedings to the current one.
That alerted both his colleagues, who took notice of Alexander's sudden engagement, and the reporters studying every minor detail that something had changed. As he walked through the halls of the Capitol during the evening breaks, Alexander was mobbed by the press corps that had earlier in the week been so focused on the other swing votes -- Sens. Susan Collins, Mitt Romney and Lisa Murkowski. Still, Alexander refused to engage.
Republicans take a deep breath after initial Bolton scare
But during the dinner break, Alexander was spotted entering his private office in the Capitol with Murkowski, which only heightened the tension. Was an alliance being forged? Would an announcement from both about how they would vote on witnesses be soon forthcoming?
When he emerged from their meeting to join his other colleagues for dinner, Alexander demurred.
"We were just talking," Alexander told CNN after emerging from their meeting. "Lisa and I often talk about what we are doing."
The final hours of questions and answers on the floor became an exercise in scrutinizing every move by Alexander and Murkowski in the Senate chamber. An indication of where the two swing votes were headed became much clearer late in the 9 p.m. hour as senators continued to ask the legal teams questions.
Alexander and Murkowski were spotted meeting with staunch Trump ally Sen. Lindsey Graham of South Carolina in the Republican cloakroom just off the Senate chamber. A few minutes later, after Alexander and Graham emerged and just after 10 p.m., Graham submitted a question on which several GOP senators, including both Alexander and Murkowski, added their names. The question spoke to that emerging consensus within the Republican conference:
"Assuming for argument's sake that Bolton were to testify in the light most favorable to the allegations contained in the articles of impeachment, isn't it true that the allegations still would not rise to the level of an impeachable offense, and that therefore for this and other reasons his testimony would add nothing to this case?"
The full message of Alexander's statement, which concedes the evidence shows Trump withheld aid to Ukraine in an attempt to extract an investigation into his political rivals, is that the President's actions nevertheless do not warrant removal from office. That's a position the GOP conference seemed to have arrived at earlier in the week.
Practically, Alexander's decision removes all doubt about the trajectory of the trial. Without Murkowski's support and an unlikely tie-breaking vote from Chief Justice John Roberts, there are not enough votes to call Bolton to the stand. There are vanishingly fewer chances to sway Republican senators who might have otherwise been open to conviction.
And as the Tennessean's statement indicated, Trump's ultimate future in the White House will not be determined by the Senate but by American voters.
"I believe that the Constitution provides that the people should make that decision in the presidential election that begins in Iowa on Monday," Alexander said.

APBMI Keluhkan Monopoli Bongkar Muat Pelabuhan - BeritaSatu

Jakarta, Beritasatu.com - Para pengusaha yang tergabung dalam Asosiasi Perusahaan Bongkar Muat Indonesia (APBMI) mengeluhkan Peraturan Menteri Perhubungan No.152/2016 yang dirasa mempersempit ruang usaha aktivitas bongkar muat perusahaan swasta.  Ketua Umum DPP APBMI H.M.

The Boys deleted scene shows The Deep at his creepy worst - GamesRadar

The first-ever deleted scene from The Boys season 1 has been released. In a brief two-minute clip from the Amazon Prime superhero series, The Deep (Chace Crawford) is seen teaching CPR to a handful of lifeguards and, yes, he still somehow manages to douche up the place with his unfathomable obnoxiousness.

It’s unclear where The Boys deleted scene would have fit in, though it’s presumably before The Deep was cast out of the Seven and sent to the depths of Ohio. In it, the fish-themed ‘hero’ is giving a lesson in how to save someone’s life. It gets gross. Very gross.

With references to pumping, spitting, and more than one mention of the groin area, The Deep’s slimy charm unfortunately oozes all over the deleted scene. He even takes one woman to task for using her phone, but not before he attempts to showcase his strength to her by using only one hand to compress the dummy’s chest. Check out the tough guy over here. Inevitably, numerous sex and penis jokes follow.

While this is the first deleted scene from The Boys that’s surfaced, it’s not the first we’ve heard about. Show creator Eric Kripke revealed that one moment actually had to be cut from season 1. The full details are here but, if you’re apprehensive, here’s a two-word preview: Homelander spunk.

The Boys season 2, meanwhile, has a trailer you can watch to tide you over until its release – revealed to be “mid-2020” according to a Karl Urban Instagram post late last year.

From The Man in the High Castle, to The Expanse, and beyond, here are the best shows on Amazon Prime.

4 Kementerian Keroyokan Hadang Corona di Pelabuhan dan Bandara - detikFinance

Jakarta -
