At the press conference, victim's families talked about how much it would mean to them to have people know the importance of staying at the scene.
"Awareness to stay on the scene is number one. That three, four, five minutes could save a life," the father of a victim, Freddie Santiago, said.
Santiago's son Patrick died last year. He was hit and killed in North Fort Myers while walking home.
"I was expecting him to come home. Until FHP notified me about 3 p.m. that morning that I need to go to the hospital," Santiago said.
The driver, in this case, hit Patrick and took off. Right now troopers don't know who the driver is and that's why they are asking the public for any information.
"We need to put these killers behind bars and make note there’s no doubt about it these are killers. These are murderers. These are people that made the conscious decision to take a life and leave that life for dead on the side of the road. We are the component that people can reach out to anonymously," Trish Routte, the Coordinator for SWFL Crime Stoppers, said.
If you have a tip about any hit-and-run crash, you can anonymously call SWFL Crime Stoppers at 1-800-780-TIPS.
