The Konecranes Gottwald Model 6 Portal Harbor Cranes are for the port’s public facility, Globalplex Intermodal Terminal. The $12.72 million cranes were mostly funded by the state’s Port Construction and Development Priority Program.
In a news release, the port said that increased throughput tonnage and the need for efficiency prompted the purchase of the new equipment. Konecranes provide the required high-performance and robust port equipment that would handle the large cargo volume and years of continuous use, the release said.
The cranes have a maximum lifting capacity of 125 tons and offer the potential for continuous-duty bulk material handling or heavy project cargo. They include a boom-top cable reel to operate electric spreaders for container handling. Features include cargo-hold totalizer, hoisting-height and working-range assistants, web reporting and remote desktop control.
