COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KKTV) - A fight at a Colorado Springs mall resulted in an active shooter scare Friday afternoon.
Police ultimately determined a gun was waved around but never actually fired, but for more than an hour the scene at the Citadel Mall was chaotic as officers tried to piece together what happened.
CSPD said they began receiving reports around 12:15 p.m. of someone pulling out a gun inside the mall. The original caller told them no shots were fired, while others officers spoke with said gunshots were heard.
Rumors swirled that there could be a gunman inside the mall.
“When I came out for lunch, cops were going everywhere across Platte and Chelton ... I went over to Chick-fil-A and I was talking to the lady taking orders; she said that they had an active shooter,” said witness Wayne England.
England said he saw police running around outside the mall as though they were looking for someone.
“They were everywhere over here. Especially at the corner where the pawnshop is. Yeah, they were like in a ditch and everywhere.”
During the investigation, a nearby school was briefly placed on lockdown out of an abundance of caution.
Police said Friday evening that an argument broke out among several people inside the mall and a gun was pulled out. No shots were ever fired, and no one was injured.
At the time of this writing, no arrests have been made.
