Deputies: Duo stole hemp plants, fled scene in Montgomery County - Times Union

TOWN OF FLORIDA — Two men face felony larceny charges after Montgomery County sheriff's deputies said they caught them with hemp plants stolen from a local farm.

Austin J. Baker, 27, of Schenectady and Robert Stevens III, 30, of Rotterdam were taken into custody Friday after deputies said they fled the scene in an SUV.

Deputies said they were called to a on Power House Road in the town of Florida to investigate a theft in progress. The two men were found at the scene and took off with the plants still in the vehicle, deputies said.

Baker and Stevens were taken into custody and charged with fourth-degree grand larceny. Deputies said they also lodged charges of reckless driving and fleeing a police officer in a motor vehicle.

The two men were given tickets and ordered to appear in town court on a later date.
