Boston-based ClimaCell, a weather forecasting company, will partner with vessel satellite communications service NearshoreNetworks to grow its presence across the port authority and operations industry in North America
Expanding into the maritime sector is seen as a natural step as weather conditions are the leading cause of cargo delays. By combining NearshoreNetworks’ vessel tracking and communications technology and ClimaCell’s weather forecasting, fleet and port operators can better understand the impact of forecast weather, be proactive and respond quickly to changing conditions.
The partnership between the companies will begin with a focus in North America and is already underway. Nearshorenetworks’ founder and chief executive Bob Miltenberger said partnering with ClimaCell was the best opportunity for his company in the industry.
ClimaCell chief marketing officer Dan Slagen said the vessel management and port operations sectors align perfectly with the company’s existing and next-generation technology and added “Partnering with Bob and the entire team at NearshoreNetworks was a compelling opportunity given their track record and expertise.”
The core value for vessel management and port operation teams consists of cost savings and operational efficiencies including: predictive loading and unloading windows for increased throughput, minute-by-minute weather insights down to vessel location level, weather impact across more than 30 parameters including wind speed and direction, wave height and lightning and access to historical, real-time and forecast weather impact.
Established in 2016, ClimaCell’s operations now include North America, Europe and Asia-Pacific, with customers across multiple industries including Uber, Delta, Ford, Intact Insurance, National Grid, the US Open and Porsche.
