Wild scene outside Bay City bar ends in two arrests - MLive.com

BAY CITY, MI – Two people were arrested early Sunday morning as police attempted to disperse a large crowd outside of a Bay City bar.

Officers with the Bay City Department of Public Safety assigned to the Midland Street area requested additional units shortly before 2 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 27 in reference to a fight involving several people that began inside Lucky’s Pub & Grill.

The fight spilled outside the bar, where approximately 250 people were in the block that’s closed to vehicle traffic for outdoor service, per a Bay City Department of Public Safety news release.

Officers were initially unable to disperse the crowd due to its size and observed multiple brief physical altercations. Assistance was requested from additional Bay County law enforcement agencies.

A short time later, gunshots were heard by officers on three separate occasions.

Officers on scene again requested additional assistance, with Bay County Central Dispatch requesting assistance from Saginaw County. Several additional officers responded to the scene, police said.

Assistance was provided by the Bay County Sheriff’s Department, Hampton Township Public Safety, Essexville Public Safety, Saginaw County Sheriff’s Department, Carrolton Police Department and Michigan State Police.

As they attempted to disperse the crowd, officers encountered a 24-year-old Saginaw man who police said was waving a knife at other bystanders.

A 21-year-old Saginaw woman known to the man took the knife and initially refused to drop it upon verbal commands from an officer, police said.

The woman dropped the knife, but she resisted officer’s attempts to place her in handcuffs by kicking and pulling away.

Both people were eventually taken into custody by police.

Officers were able to disperse the crowd approximately one hour after the incident began.

No injuries associated with the incident have been reported to police.

Anyone with information about the incident may contact the Bay City Department of Public Safety at 989-892-8571 or report a tip anonymously to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-SPEAK-UP (773-2587).
