A car passed police barriers and drove through the scene of a three-alarm commercial fire in Baltimore late Sunday.
Around 10 p.m., Baltimore firefighters were called out to Edmondson Village Shopping Center where fire engulfed two stores and spread to several others.
While firefighters were working to bring the fire under control, a black sedan went through police barriers and drove through the fire scene. The vehicle damaged apparatus, hose and other firefighting equipment at the scene, according to a tweet from Baltimore Firefighters Local 734.
No firefighters were injured.
The fire union shared that Baltimore police officers "transported" the driver.
"We have approximately five buildings that are being affected at this time; however, units are doing a very good job, at this point, in containing it to the fire buildings at this time," Baltimore City Fire Chief Roman Clark told WBAL television station.
Mutual aid was received from Baltimore County as the fire grew.
The fire started above a restaurant and was fueled by gas lines that were damaged when the roof collapsed, according to the Baltimore Sun.
It was declared under control almost six hours after firefighters arrived and crews remained on scene late Sunday morning.
It was the second fire to damage the shopping center since 2019, the newspaper reported.
