A man living at a homeless encampment in Chula Vista showed up there Monday night with two gunshot wounds, but police were still trying to figure out where the shooting took place, a lieutenant said.
The injured man’s friends called for help just after 10:30 p.m. from the encampment near North Second Avenue and the interchange between Interstate 805 and state Route 54, Chula Vista police Lt. David Oyos said.
Investigators believe the shooting took place elsewhere, and the victim was able to make it back to the encampment, Oyos said, adding the victim was unable to answer questions and tell police where the shooting occurred.
Medics took him to a hospital for treatment of two gunshot wounds, Oyos said. He was expected to survive.
The encampment where the victim was found is just across SR-54 from National City, so Chula Vista police were coordinating with National City police to search for the crime scene in both jurisdictions, Oyos said.
