EYE ON CLALLAM: Port of Port Angeles pursues passenger airline service - Peninsula Daily News

Port of Port Angeles commissioners will consider another step in acquiring passenger airline service between Port Angeles and Seattle when they meet at 9 a.m. Tuesday.

Port of Port Angeles staff members have been in discussions with an airline since July 2020 and believe the unidentified airline’s business plan is viable “and will soon be positioned to begin scheduled air service between the William R. Fairchild International airport and SeaTac International airport,” according to the port agenda.

Commissioners will consider approving a minimum revenue guarantee for the airline on Tuesday.

Commissioners also will consider accepting a $23,000 federal grant for the airport.

They also will consider a professional services agreement for a terminal pile survey and benefits for non-represented employees.

During a work session at the beginning of the meeting, they will hear an investment report and an update on the Sequim Shoreline Master Program.

Clallam County commissioners will discuss rural broadband in a joint meeting with Port of Port Angeles commissioners Monday.

Broadband consultant CBG Communications will be on hand for the hour-long discussion.

Other agenda items for the joint meeting include a Western Rural Development Center analysis to match industries with communities and an appeal to the state Supreme Court.

County commissioners

Clallam County commissioners will discuss an agreement with Clallam Conservation District for an environmental site assessment for the Dungeness off-channel reservoir project at 9 a.m. Monday.

Other discussion items include a grant application for victim witness assistance and an agreement with Green Solutions, LLC. for an update to the Clallam County Solid Waste Management Plan.

Commissioners will conduct a public hearing at 5 p.m. Monday on Charter Review Commission recommendations to hire a county forester and to meet all housing needs by creating permanent housing.

The board will conduct its regular business meeting at 10 a.m. Tuesday.

Action items include:

• A letter of support for the Serenity House of Clallam County shelter expansion.

• An agreement with the state Military Department for an Operation Stonegarden grant.

• An agreement with Wilson Engineering, LLC. for an analysis of the Clallam Bay/Sekiu sewer project.

• A contract amendment with the state Department of Health for additional COVID-19 funding.

• A resolution appointing Robert Filip to the Board of Equalization.

• A resolution adopting a budget reduction and supplemental appropriation.

• Certification of a grant application match for an Olympic Discovery Trail segment from Forks to La Push.

• A public hearing for consideration of debatable budget emergencies.

Sequim city

The Sequim City Council will consider code amendments proposed for requirements concerning private streets when it meets at 6 p.m. Monday.

The council also will discuss what to do with the old city administration building at 226 N. Sequim Ave., which has been used for storage since 2015.

Council members also will hear of a city planning commission recommendation to amend downtown core zoning. A public hearing is planned May 10.

Sequim schools

The Sequim School Board will consider an emergency waiver of graduation credits when it meets at 6 p.m. Monday.

The public can attend in person at the Sequim High School cafeteria, 601 N. Sequim Ave. with registration in advance by emailing [email protected] by noon Monday. Or members of the public can dial in to Microsoft Teams at 360-775-2372 with ID 962 922 557.

Those who attend in person also must complete a health attestation upon arrival, wear proper face coverings, maintain 6-foot social distance and use designated entry and exit points, the district said on its agenda.

The board also will hear a report on finances and enrollment and consider a variety of policies.

Forks city

The Forks City Council will consider naming of a sports court when it meets at 7:30 p.m. Monday.

The council also will consider the purchase of a city hall backup generator and discuss state Department of Natural Resources litigation. It will hear an update on FEMA (Federal Emergency Management Agency) floodplain mapping.
