Warning: This article includes minor spoilers for the sixth episode of “The Falcon and the Winter Soldier.”
The series finale of “The Falcon and the Winter Soldier” had one post-credits scene, and it hints at what might come next in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
What happened with Sharon Carter in the series finale?
“The Falcon and the Winter Soldier” finale saw Sharon Carter return to the spotlight, helping out Sam (Anthony Mackie) and Bucky (Sebastian Stan) face off with the Flag Smashers. Sam, when assuming the role as Captain America, hints that he asked Sharon Carter to come help as a form of backup.
Later in the finale, Sharon reveals herself to be the Power Broker — a reveal that we saw coming based off a simple scene from last week — to Karli Morgenthau. Karli ends up shooting Sharon, who recovers from the shot. Karli ends up being killed by Sharon without ever revealing Sharon’s identity as the Power Broker.
Post-credits scene, explained
The post-credits scene starts with Sharon Carter accepting a pardon from the Global Repatriation Council. The council touts Sharon’s record and her family’s history — her aunt, Peggy Carter, was an agent for the U.S. government — as reasons to bring her back into the country. She had been banned from the United States because she helped Captain America and the Winter Solder evade the government in previous “Captain America” films. The GRC says there may be an opening in the government for Sharon.
After Sharon accepts her pardon, she heads outside and makes a phone call to someone we don’t see. She says the Super Soldier Serum is out of play, but now she will have access to government secrets, prototypes and weapons.
And that’s all we get.
So what does this mean?
It could suggest Sharon is going to be one of the big villains for the upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe films and television shows. She clearly seems to be working with multiple people across the world, giving away access to government secrets and weapon information. She’s taking on a role that will combat directly with Captain America and the Winter Soldier moving forward.
It’s unclear what this means for her moving forward. But it could be a big deal in setting the stage for what villains we might see next in the MCU.
