SPRINGFIELD – Police responding to a shooting Sunday night in the Bay neighborhood recovered an AK-47 gun at the scene.
A man suffered at least one gunshot wound in the shooting, which occurred at about 11:40 p.m. on Lionel Benoit Road. He was brought to Baystate Medical Center by ambulance for injuries that are not believed to be life-threatening, said Ryan Walsh, police spokesman.
Police were alerted to the crime through a ShotSpotter activation. When they arrived they found the victim, he said.
Officers recovered an AK-47 and ammunition at the scene while investigating the shooting. The victim is not believed to have been shot with that weapon, Walsh said.
The department’s Detective Bureau is investigating, he said.
