BUFFALO, N.Y. — U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers intercepted smuggled marijuana in two separate shipments worth a combined $6 million at the Port of Buffalo within the past week.

The first seizure occurred Wednesday at the Lewiston Bridge when officers discovered 1,275 vacuum-sealed packages of suspected pot concealed within a truck and trailer manifested for “paper,” the agency stated in a news release.

The packages, which field-tested positive for properties of marijuana, had an estimated street value of $2.8 million.

Meanwhile, officers intercepted another 1,663 pounds of suspected marijuana at the Peace Bridge in a similar commercial “paper” shipment within 24 hours of the Lewiston Bridge seizure. The drugs seized in the second incident had an estimated street value of more than $3 million.

“The officers assigned to the Port of Buffalo continue to demonstrate their steadfast dedication to intercepting illegal contraband,” Acting Buffalo Port Director Gaetano Cordone stated.

Both seizures are currently under investigation by Homeland Security Investigations.
