The Port of Port Townsend recently announced its plans to remodel the Pavilion Building, known by most as the former location of Pygmy Boats.
According to a recent quarterly update on the port’s capital improvement projects, Chief Engineer Mike Love said the goal would be to have the building usable for commissioners by late summer.
The renovation will be subject to historic preservation review, due to the building’s inclusion in the historical district.
Planned improvements include new windows, exterior doors, a handrail for an exterior deck, a new heating and ventilation system, the addition of a bathroom, a storage room, an interior elevated platform, kitchenette, flooring, interior paint and sound dampening.
The project is expected to cost $148,434 and may be appropriate to see funding through the established industrial development district levy.
Port officials expect a draft design for the remodel to be available sometime this month.
Port officials have previously noted the possibility of relocating the moorage office for Boat Haven.
Currently, three options are being considered for locating the moorage office: an old Coast Guard building currently being used for material and equipment storage in the maintenance yard; the Skookum Building; or using the existing office with a remodel.
Port staff have been more closely examining the possibility of relocating the Coast Guard building and moving the current moorage office building to the Jefferson County International Airport for use as a terminal building.
Staff have also proposed the relocation of the county’s hazardous material building to the airport to be used as an equipment storage facility, freeing up more hangar space.
The estimated cost to remodel and relocate the former Coast Guard building is $200,750.
No cost estimates are currently available for the possible relocation of the moorage office or the county hazardous material building.
Funding to the tune of $160,000 have been identified for the project by the port.
Some smaller renovations were also announced by the port during their briefing on capital projects.
A remodel of the Skookum (Nomura) Building is currently underway and expected to cost in the neighborhood of $55,800.
The port is also looking to restore portions of port-owned dock currently being used by New Day Fisheries. The project is expected to cost roughly $17,200.
