DELTON, Wis. — The suspect in a crash who fled the scene was located and taken into custody at around 9:30 a.m.
Early Saturday morning, during a traffic stop on CTH T, the driver of a vehicle with two other occupants sped away from an approaching deputy.
The deputy then found the vehicle a short distance away in Fairfield, overturned in a ditch. The driver had crossed through oncoming traffic on a curve in the road.
Both passengers were ejected.
One sustained severe injuries and was found several feet from the car.
The other was partially pinned under the car and was deceased when the deputy arrived. The driver had already fled the scene.
Additional Sheriff’s Deputies, Dells-Delton EMS and Lake Delton Fire, UW Med-Flight and the Wisconsin State Patrol were called for help immediately.
The surviving passenger was taken by Med-Flight to UW Hospital in Madison for treatment. His condition is unknown at this time.
The Crash Investigation is being handled by the Wisconsin State Patrol. All names are being withheld at this time as family members are notified and the investigation continues.
The Sauk County Sheriff’s Office was assisted in this incident by the Lake Delton Police Department, Dells-Delton EMS, Lake Delton Fire Department, Wisconsin State Patrol, Sauk County Coroner’s Office, Sauk County Highway Department, Portage Police Department and the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office.
