SAGINAW, MI — Officers from the Saginaw Police Department and Michigan State Police are investigating a shooting that occurred before noon on Wednesday, Aug. 4.
Perkins between 13th and 14th streets on the city’s East Side were blocked off with crime-scene tape as several groups of civilians watched as police investigated.
At least one person was shot, according to police on the scene. Police did not release the identity or condition of the victim.
MSP is in charge of the investigation, according to police at the scene.
Saginaw saw a violent weekend that carried on into the beginning of the week.
The first incident occurred about 11 p.m. on Saturday, July 31, in the 2700 block of Lynnwood Avenue and saw four people shot at a large party. Of the four shot, two — Dammess L. Patillo, 44, and Tamarea S. Steward, 26 — died of their wounds.
About 12 hours later at 11:20 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 1, three people were shot in the 1300 block of Brockway Road.
On Monday, Aug. 2, police responded to a shooting in the 1500 block of Cedar Street on the city’s East Side. They arrived to find an adult male had suffered a grazing wound.
The city has recorded 12 homicides so far this year. The Aug. 2 shooting is the city’s 61st of the year.
Law enforcement and Mayor Brenda Moore will have a press conference to address the recent violence at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Aug. 5, in the Council Chambers of City Hall, 1315 S. Washington.
