The Chelan Douglas Regional Port Authority is not renewing a $2 million contract to develop vacant downtown Wenatchee warehouse space.
The group S.P.O.R.T. Gymnastics was proposing to convert three buildings at Columbia Street and Orondo Avenue into an athletic adventure area with batting cages and a roof-top bar.
Port Authority CEO Jim Kuntz says the developer heading the group, Flint Hartwig, failed to come up with financing to buy the space and hasn’t filed a building permit with the City of Wenatchee.
“He was not able to meet some of the deadlines that were put in the agreement, after the agreement had been extended multiple times,” said Kuntz.
The Port will continue to market the warehouse space, but has not ruled out Hartwig and S.P.O.R.T if the group can come up with financing in the future.
“S.P.O.R.T. has put a lot of time and effort into this project,” Kuntz said. “We recognize that. We think it’s a great illustration of their commitment to the project. But at this point, why to continue to put artificial time lines on, when things have to be done.”
The most recent agreement with S.P.O.R.T. expired Aug. 2.
It’s plan for a multi-use activity center would have occupied 36,830 square feet of warehouse space formerly owned by Lineage Logistics.
