Port of Port Townsend commissioners have approved the port’s schedule to develop next year’s operating and capital budget.
Internal work sessions on the 2022 budget started in late July, and the port will host a public workshop Wednesday to discuss issues, goals and assumptions on the draft spending plan and a review of this year’s budget.
The Aug. 11 workshop, which begins at 9:30 a.m., will include a discussion of proposed rates and expenses.
Department managers and port directors will continue to talk about the 2022 budget during a group work session planned for Aug. 25. Individual meetings between port commissioners and staff may also be held later this month.
At the port commission meeting Sept. 8, port officials expect to hear from the county assessor about the recommended property tax levy for 2022. That meeting may also include talk on the port’s Industrial Development District levy in 2022.
The first draft of the 2022 budget is expected to be available to the public Sept. 17. Port officials expect it to be presented to the port commission and the public at a meeting Sept. 22.
According to the adopted budget schedule approved by the port at its last meeting, the second review of the draft budget — including any proposed rates and changes from the first review — will be taken up at the port board’s meeting Oct. 13.
The first public hearing on the 2022 port budget has been set for 5:30 p.m. Oct. 27.
The second public hearing — and the adoption of the spending plan, rates and the new property tax and Industrial Development District levies — is planned for 1 p.m. Nov. 10.
The adopted budget and approved tax levy resolutions are due to Jefferson County by Nov. 30.
