JACKSON, MI – A 911 call made from the scene of a triple slaying in Grass Lake Township was released to the public through a Freedom of Information Act request.

A woman made a grisly discovery at a rural Grass Lake residence early on the morning of Aug. 22 -- the dead bodies of the men who also lived in the house.

Zacharie Scott Borton, 43, has since been charged with murder, accused of fatally shooting three men.

MLive/Jackson Citizen Patriot has obtained the woman’s panicked 911 call through a Freedom of Information Act request.

How the city of Jackson plans to attract investors to historic Hayes Hotel building

The city of Jackson has invested approximately $1.5 million over the years to keep the Hayes Hotel building intact for potential redevelopment.

Surveillance images released of suspected Jackson bank robber

Police investigating a bank robbery that occurred in Jackson Saturday have released surveillance images of a suspect.

A man entered the Flagstar bank at 10:40 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 4, located at 1717 N. West Avenue, and gave the teller a note indicating he had a gun and said he this was a robbery, according to the Jackson Police Department.

After being handed an undisclosed amount of cash, the man left the bank and is believed to have fled the area in a newer model black Ford Edge, police said.

Transportation director leaving Jackson County, familiar face taking over

Jackson County’s Department of Transportation is getting a new managing director.

After seven years in the position, current Managing Director Christopher Bolt is leaving Friday, Sept. 10, for a new job as director of public works and utilities for the city of Petaluma, California.

“I love to help organizations transform and grow and develop,” Bolt said. “So, yes it’s a new opportunity, and my wife and I thought it was time for a new chapter in our lives. I’m excited to embark on this new journey.”

Police chase on I-94 through Jackson County ends in crash near Chelsea

A police chase involving a stolen vehicle from Detroit suspected of being used in a robbery in Coldwater ended in a crash near Chelsea, police say.

At about 7:45 a.m. Monday, Sept. 6, a Michigan State Police Trooper attempted to stop a 2020 Dodge Durango on I-94 in Jackson County for a traffic violation when the vehicle suddenly sped off, according to the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office.

Perseverance drives this Jackson 10 year old to read like a high school senior

Shreya Pingali may be 10 years old, but she reads at the level of a high school senior.

Shreya, a student at Jackson’s Kumon Math and Reading Center, started the reading program when she was 4 years old.

Her quick progression from learning the alphabet to reading and comprehending Shakespearean poetry in six years makes her the youngest student to ever complete the program at the Jackson location at 1212 Wildwood Drive, said Shelia McLogan, former Kumon instructor.

Crash kills 1, injures 2 in Jackson County, police say

A woman was killed and two others were injured in a rear-end crash this weekend in Blackman Township.

At about 5:16 p.m. on Sept. 4, Blackman-Leoni Department of Public Safety officers were dispatched to the crash in the area of Lansing Avenue and Parnall Road, Director Mike Jester said.

Officers found that a Hummer H-3 driving west had rear-ended a Chevrolet Trax, Jester said. The driver of the Hummer was a 16-year-old male from Stockbridge.

Jackson YMCA partnering with hospital to provide health services in new facility

The Jackson YMCA is partnering with Henry Ford Allegiance Health to provide space and staff for specialty services in its new downtown facility.

HFAH has agreed to lease approximately 6,500 square feet in the new Y for services including sports medicine, rehabilitation for physical therapy and more.

The boards of both groups have approved the agreement. The hospital previously invested $1 million toward the YMCA’s capital campaign to build the approximately 75,000-square-foot facility.
