The Port Townsend Main Street Program and Key City Public Theatre have joined forces to bring free-of-charge guided Hidden History tours to downtown Port Townsend.
The Hidden History tours are offered at 1 p.m. every first and third Saturday of the month, starting at Haller Fountain, at the intersection of Washington and Taylor streets.
Key City Public Theatre actor Bry Kifolo will take viewers on an interactive walk, visiting the newly installed Hidden History signs around town. The tours last 45 minutes, and will present spectators with information about Port Townsend’s historic past.
“These tours introduce you to the new Hidden History signs, which tell about some of Port Townsend’s lesser known stories. The tours are designed to be interesting experiences that pique your curiosity about Port Townsend’s history — and you might even win a small prize,” said Mari Mullen, Port Townsend Main Street’s executive director.
The Hidden History Signage Project was completed last month through collaboration with the Port Townsend Main Street Program, Olympic Peninsula Steam, the Jefferson County Historical Society, and the city of Port Townsend. There are QR codes on each sign Uptown and downtown leading to the project website.
The Hidden History Tours are made possible through the First Federal Community Foundation, the Port of Port Townsend, and Windermere Real Estate as part of the Main Street Program’s “Love Where You Live” marketing campaign.
One element of the campaign focuses on engaging the public in historic districts, by offering self-guided and guided tours and small-scale experiences for locals and visitors.
