Two ferry sailings on the Port Townsend-Coupeville route were canceled Thursday afternoon after Washington State Ferries reported a shortage of crew members to work on the boat.
The 3:30 p.m. Port Townsend and 4:15 p.m. Coupeville sailings were called off after WSF reported it failed to meet Coast Guard requirements on the number of crew needed for the crossings.
The service reduction on the Port Townsend ferry run followed earlier warnings by WSF this week that additional sailings were likely to be cancelled through the Labor Day holiday weekend.
WSF officials have cautioned ferry riders that disrupted sailings are expected "due to COVID-19 cases and quarantines among crew and the global shortage of mariners."
