If you’re new to the Buffalo area like I somewhat am, it can be hard to find others to game with. It’s pretty unfortunate since board games typically rely on being played by groups. Most people from the area are already a part of a gaming group, so once you even manage to find fellow board game fans and gaming stores that you like, it can be an even greater challenge infiltrating those pre-existing groups. Thankfully, though, a group exists to help anyone in or near Buffalo to find the gaming group that works best for them.
Organized and moderated by Jim Kerr, Rachel Kerr, Chris Mislin, and Jason Gough, the Greater Buffalo Boardgames Meetup Group’s goal is to create a single place to aggregate all regular open board game events so people can find others to play with. With their work, they hope to help the board game community in the Buffalo area grow. With over 150 members in their Facebook group and 1,800 members on meetup.com, they’ve certainly been successful in their goal.
All players 12 years old and up, including adults of any age, are invited to play any games they can think of from casual party games like Apples to Apples to intense strategy games like Twilight Imperium. There are so many potential games to play and so many people to play with that there is truly something for everyone.
If there is something you’ve always wanted to play, this is a fantastic way to finally learn it and give it a try. If you’ve been building up your personal board game library with untouched games, this Meetup group is definitely who you need to contact so you can dust them off to play.

As someone who hasn’t had the best luck with finding a steady group for board gaming since I moved to Buffalo, I’ll likely be taking advantage of this opportunity to find some like-minded individuals to game with. Having a dedicated and friendly community like this is extremely helpful for any gamer looking for someone to play with or a place to belong. Everyone in the Greater Buffalo Boardgames Meetup Group appears to be extremely welcoming, so don’t be afraid or nervous to reach out and find others to play board games with.
