LONG BEACH, Miss. (WLOX) - Hours after a gas truck overturned on eastbound I-10, drivers are still being cautioned to slow down and stay alert in the area near exit 28 at Long Beach. Around 12:39pm, the Mississippi Department of Transportation reported several crashes at the 29-mile marker. And just after 2pm, a car fire was also reported near the 31-mile marker. Luckily, that driver was not injured.
The first accident happened before 7am Monday when a gas truck overturned in the median near the Long Beach exit. The truck was loaded with approximately 3,000 gallons of gas, but was not leaking. The driver of the truck was taken to the hospital, but the extent of his injuries is not known.
The left eastbound lane remained closed for hours as first responders contained the scene, offloaded the gasoline to an empty tanker, and turned the truck upright. That process was completed around 2pm.
MHP, Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality, and MS Commercial Transportation Enforcement Division are currently investigating the crash.
