NORTH OLMSTED, Ohio –
Felony theft: Brookpark Road Extension
Police at 7:25 p.m. Nov. 5 arrested a suspect who was wanted on a felony theft warrant after he returned to the store where he was accused of the theft.
A Guitar Center employee on Nov. 5 called police to report the man’s return. The suspect on Sept. 25 had been in the store and left carrying a guitar and an amplifier valued at $2,000. He did not pay for the items, according to a police report.
At that time, the police filed a felony theft charge against the man. The store knew the man’s identity because he was a regular and had sold equipment back to the store in the past. Police were not immediately able to locate the suspect to serve the warrant.
When the suspect returned to the Guitar Center store on Nov. 5, the felony warrant from the Sept. 25 incident was still active.
When police arrived at the store on Nov. 5, they found the suspect standing at the front counter. Officers handcuffed him and took him into custody without incident, according to a police report.
Petty theft: Great Northern Mall
Police officers at 2:57 p.m. Oct. 26 responded to the JCPenney department store regarding a female shoplifting suspect who ran from the store and was fleeing in a Ford F-150 pickup truck.
Officers stopped the truck in the parking lot and saw a woman passenger apparently trying to conceal something in the backseat of the truck.
Officers recovered tennis shoes marked “display.” A further search uncovered a bag of clothing items, totaling $295, and the items had tin foil wrapped over the security sensors.
A store loss prevention officer reported watching as the woman selected numerous items of clothing and went into a changing room. When she exited, the bag she was carrying appeared noticeably larger, according to a police report. A search of the dressing room failed to turn up several clothing items the woman had been carrying.
The loss prevention officer attempted to stop the woman, but she ran and got into the pickup truck, according to a police report.
The woman told police she was not admitting to the theft, but that she wanted the items for her son, who is in the Army, according to the police report.
The woman was charged with petty theft, a misdemeanor.
Petty theft: Brookpark Road
Officers at 8:54 p.m. Oct. 29 responded to Walmart regarding a suspected female shoplifter who was being held.
A loss prevention officer reported seeing the woman remove a $2 price tag from a pair of shorts and then scan the price tag repeatedly at a self-service checkout register while bagging more expensive items. The loss prevention officer asked a uniformed employee to instruct the suspect to stop scanning the improper barcode, but the suspect continued. In total, she used the improper barcode four times, spending $8 to purchase $65.89 worth of merchandise.
The suspect admitted to the police that she didn’t have enough money to pay for the items she wanted.
Police charged the suspect with petty theft, and she is barred from all Walmart properties in the future.
