Man vanishes from scene after crashing into hospital shuttle: Mayfield Heights Police Blotter - cleveland.com

MAYFIELD HEIGHTS, Ohio

Impaired driving: Mayfield Road

A car crashed into a hospital shuttle bus Nov. 11 and the car’s driver fled from the area on foot. The registration returned to a 59-year-old Chester man and he was subsequently located entering a woman’s vehicle to the west of the Villa Serena apartments.

It was discovered he had made a call to be picked up after the crash. He admitted to drinking at Cork N’ Bottle but denied driving the vehicle despite being in possession of the keys. He was subsequently charged with OVI and hit-skip.

Vandalism: Oakville Road

Three wooden pillars at Oakville Park were found with graffiti on them Nov. 16. A permanent marker had been used to sketch a penis and other sophomoric messages.

Surveillance video showed the suspect was an unidentified boy, around the age of 12.

Theft: Eastgate Plaza

A Marc’s manager reported Nov. 13 that he had followed a shoplifter out of the store, but she fled in a vehicle being driven by a man.

Responding officers were able to track the vehicle to Stanwell Drive in Highland Heights. There, the driver complained of chest pains and was taken to the hospital. The Cleveland man, 62, was later charged with theft, possession of criminal tools and for other traffic violations.

The passenger, a 48-year-old Cleveland woman, who had been the suspect in the store, was charged with falsification and theft.

Theft: Mayflower Avenue

A man reported Nov. 12 that he was the victim of fraud when trying to transfer crypto currency online. He said he contacted someone to help him through an online community, but that person made the transfer to his own account.

He said the market value of the currency is $1,800.

Fraud: Landerbrook Drive

A company reported Nov. 15 that a credit card was fraudulently opened in the business’s name and there were over $4,000 in charges on it.

Police are investigating.

Fraud: Fox Hollow Drive

A resident reported a possible scam regarding stocks Nov. 15. The matter is being investigated.

Suspicion: Mayfield Road

A manager of Ohio Savings Bank reported Nov. 15 that a woman came into the business and presented a note stating she was involved in human trafficking. She did not want police called because she said they might be involved. She subsequently walked out of the bank but was located by responding officers.

The department’s victim advocate is working with the woman as much of what she told police did not make sense.

Harassing communication: Mayfield Road

A man said Nov. 14 that he received a threatening email after he sent $75 worth of gift cards to an unknown woman. He only asked for advice on how to block the woman from contacting him any further.

Suspicious person: Golden Gate Boulevard

The staff at the Comfort Inn reported Nov. 15 that a homeless woman kept entering the business and taking coffee. They said she yelled at them when she was told she was not welcome at the business.

Officers located the woman and advised her she was no longer permitted at the hotel. A clerk at the neighboring True North Shell allowed her to stay there for a short time.

Suspicious person: Ridgebury Boulevard

A woman was found sleeping on a tree lawn near SOM Center Road shortly before midnight Nov. 17. She was identified and given a courtesy ride to a gas station in Lyndhurst.
