10 must-see games on the Bay City area boys basketball scene for 2021-22 - MLive.com

BAY CITY, MI -- The madness of high school hoops season has arrived.

MLive sets the stage for the 2021-22 campaign by offering a look at the boys basketball scene in the Bay City area, with a glance at the top seniors, top juniors and top games to watch.

Here we take a glance at 10 must-see games from the 26-team MLive Bay City coverage area.

John Glenn at Bay City Western (7 p.m., Dec. 7): There sometimes isn’t a lot of love between these neighboring rivals. This is the perfect tipoff to the new season.

Standish-Sterling at Pinconning (7:30 p.m., Dec. 7): A fantastic local rivalry spills onto the basketball court in the season opener. After Standish-Sterling’s long football run, it won’t have much time to prepare.

Mio at Au Gres (7:30 p.m., Dec. 13): Tradition-rich Mio did not field a team last season, so this marks the much-anticipated return. Au Gres is a team with big plans and it gets tested right from the jump.

Kinde North Huron at Bay City All Saints (7:30 p.m., Dec. 17): COVID denied All Saints a second crack at North Huron with the league title on the line last season. While they fall in separate divisions this season, this remains an ever-growing rivalry.

Essexville Garber at Bay City Central (7 p.m., Jan. 5): These neighboring rivals almost never face each other, so this showdown provides a rare treat for local fans.

Reese at Bad Axe (7:30 p.m., Jan. 12): It was a fierce fight in the Greater Thumb West and again in the regional between these rivals. They’re ready to rumble again.

Oscoda at Tawas (7:30 p.m., Jan. 20): One of northeast Michigan’s great rivalries, it’s been dominated of late by Oscoda. But that may no longer be the case.

Bay City Western at Bay City Central (7 p.m., Feb. 15): There is a never a dull moment when these archrivals clash. This one will be the second meeting of the year and the one that counts in the Saginaw Valley League standings.

Essexville Garber at John Glenn (7:30 p.m., Feb. 18): There are always plenty of fireworks in the Garber-Glenn rivalry. This will be Round 2 – often of three – for the season between the Tri-Valley East foes.

Ogemaw Heights at John Glenn (7:30 p.m., Feb. 28): Look for plenty of electricity in the air when these former, longtime foes of the old North East Michigan Conference clash in a late-season battle.
