The Marvels Director Nia DaCosta Shot Ms. Marvel's Post-Credits Scene - GameRant

Now that Ms. Marvel has finished its first season (of hopefully many), it's left viewers with a number of questions that just beg for some proper answers. It's one thing to discuss a certain revelation in the season finale itself, but some fans may have missed another big teaser that was helmed by The Marvels director Nia DaCosta.

After that big X-Men twist in the finale of Ms. Marvel, it would be understandable if most viewers focused entirely on that and didn't think at the moment about Ms. Marvel's already confirmed continuation in the upcoming film The Marvels. Well, for those who stuck around through the surprisingly high production value end credits, a little teaser was waiting to set things up for the upcoming Captain Marvel sequel.

The teaser featured Iman Vellani's Kamala Khan laying on her bed when the bangle that activated her powers begins to glow. As she examines it, a blast of energy pushes her through her closet door, but what emerged wasn't Kamala. Brie Larson's Carol Danvers/Captain Marvel is seen stepping out of the closet with a confused expression before looking around the room and seeing Kamala's walls plastered with Captain Marvel memorabilia. She then rushes away before the screen cuts to black.

But as exciting as it was to see Larson in character again, that scene is significant in another way. It was actually filmed by The Marvels director DaCosta, which was apparently actually pretty convenient since it was shot during the production of the upcoming follow-up. "Nia DaCosta shot that while she was shooting The Marvels," said Ms. Marvel co-director Adil El Arbi. "She was on set with Brie Larson and Iman, and she didn't know that scene was going to be used for the post-credit scene."

The Marvels is set to bring together Larson's Captain Marvel with Vellani's Kamala/Ms. Marvel and Teyonah Parris as Monica Rambeau, who last appeared in WandaVision. "It's interesting, and something we thought about and worked through a lot," DaCosta said about the upcoming film, "which was how do we get each of these really big, exciting heroes space in a two-hour film? A lot of what we've been thinking about is what part of the journey do we need to see for each of them? How do we honor the part of the story they're at in terms of the canon, while also within our story making them equal?"

It will certainly be interesting to see how she balances the 3 heroes, especially after all of them have endeared themselves so well to audiences. There's still a while to go before The Marvels releases, but that just means there's more time to binge through Ms. Marvel again, and maybe a marathon of Captain Marvel and WandaVision wouldn't hurt either.

Ms. Marvel is available to stream on Disney Plus, while The Marvels is set to premiere on July 28th, 2023.
