Dwayne Johnson is continuing to hype up his upcoming superhero Black Adam by dishing some details about the post-credits scene.
The Rock is bringing the conflicted DC comic book character to the big screen for the first time. During an appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Johnson spoke at length about the movie, the character, the cameos and the post-credit scene.
Post-credit scenes have taken on increased significance over the years, mainly thanks to the Marvel movies, and Johnson confirmed Black Adam would feature a game-changing one.
Raving about Black Adam, Fallon commented on the Easter eggs and post-credit scene.
"We want to build out the DC Universe, introduce Black Adam and introduce other characters, as well in the JSA [Justice Society of America]." The JSA is a superhero group that predates the famous Justice League. "I have been saying this is a new era in the DC universe that I love. Yes, we're going to introduce new characters, but also the new era means that we listen to the fans.
"You gotta listen to the fans and for a very long time, for years fans have been screaming, they've been upset," Johnson added.
"We established Adam as the most powerful and unstoppable force on this planet. The most powerful and unstoppable force in the entire universe has been on the sidelines for too long. So myself Seven Bucks [Productions], Dany Garcia, Hiram Garcia, we fought and we weren't going to take no for an answer. We were going to deliver it to the fans, and then at the end." At this point Johnson briefly paused before suggesting what might happen in the post-credit scene of Black Adam: "welcome home."
Black Adam held a New York City premiere on Wednesday night with Johnson joined on the black carpet by his co-stars Pierce Brosnan, Aldis Hodge, Sarah Shahi and Noah Centineo. Johnson called it the "biggest premiere of my life" and the "biggest movie of my entire career."
During his appearance on Fallon, Johnson also reminded audiences that he was actually cast as the superhero Black Adam 15 years ago.
"Black Adam was important and this has been a passion project of mine. Just yesterday, I got sent the original article announcing me playing Black Adam 15 years ago. I pushed and fought so hard for this movie to be made." He continued: "15 years ago, like you and I both were in different positions in our careers. So when we announced that I was going to play Black Adam, it was just harder for the studio partners to look past the Justice League. They saw Superman and Batman and Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Flash."
Johnson acknowledged that he loves those heroes but his character has an advantage over all of them. "Black Adam has all the powers of Superman, but Superman won't kill because he has a code of honor and a code of ethics which we appreciate. But Black Adam will kill you."
Johnson actually made his screen debut as Black Adam in a brief cameo in the animated movie DC League of Super-Pets in a surprise post-credits scene.
Black Adam is out in movie theaters everywhere on October 21.
