The Walking Dead will air its final scene of the series on November 20, 2022. This will end an era of TV that has surpassed everyone’s expectations. The “zombie show” turned out to be something much larger than it began and spawned a fandom like no other.
The series completed filming in March 2022, but the final eight episodes don’t begin airing on AMC until October 2. Much is expected from these episodes as many loose ends need to be wrapped up, but the story concludes. Sadly, with only eight episodes remaining, many characters will not see their story get the screen time needed to complete this chapter of their story. Several characters will go on to spinoff the series, where a new chapter will begin. But, for the other charterers, what fate awaits them?
Some will see a good ending, others will fade into oblivion, never to be heard from again, and there will be some who don’t make it out alive.
The Walking Dead series finale
During an interview with Radio Times, showrunner Angela Kang shared some fascinating insight into the series finale.
Of course, the creators spent a lot of time deciding how the series should end. She shared that they know these final episodes will have many people watching, so they pitch it to everyone, producers, the studio, the network, and the actors before they try to make it the best version they can.
“Me, as the showrunner, and my writing staff, we are responsible for trying to map out the story and come up with a pitch for it, but then – with any show, but especially a show like this – there’s a lot of people that are gonna look at what you’re doing,” Kang explained.
She also shared that the original final scene is not the final scene they ended up with. Radio Times tried to discover if the original scene was altogether scrapped or just shifted. Kang held firm and would only say:
“It’s… I don’t even know if I should say that much!” she laughed. “Let’s just say that things changed.”
The last eight episodes appear to be action-packed if the trailer is any indication. Our survivors have much to come against with the Commonwealth, Lance Hornsby (Josh Hamilton), and the horde of variant walkers.
The Walking Dead returns to AMC and AMC+ on October 2.
