Avatar: The Way of Water has finally arrived in cinemas after a 13-year wait for patient Avatar fans, and it's only the beginning of our return to Pandora.

James Cameron has planned four sequels to his 2009 smash hit, which remains the biggest movie of all time. Whether they all happen remains to be seen, but Avatar 3 is definitely coming our way, hopefully in December 2024.

So with that in mind, you'd be forgiven for thinking that he might have taken a leaf from the MCU's playbook and seeded a tease for the third movie in the form of a credit scene or two in the sequel.

However, we're here to tell you that Avatar: The Way of Water doesn't have any credit scenes, although you should obviously stick through the credits to see the sheer amount of work that went into making the sequel.

It's perhaps not too much of a surprise since the first movie didn't contain any credit scenes either. However, at the time of its release, only Cameron knew that a big future was being planned.

Talking to Digital Spy ahead of the sequel's release, Cameron revealed that a credit scene was never a consideration. Instead, the movie doesn't answer every question which should keep fans ticking over until the third movie.

"There are unanswered questions by design. There are a lot of answered questions. And the specific proximal threat of this story is resolved, right?," he explained.

"So it's more like episodic television in the sense that the characters are the characters. The characters have their problems, and those problems will persist, and they'll get resolved over multiple films.

"But the specific threat of the specific moment will always be resolved. And that's our motif that we applied to these films."
