
A motorist who fled after allegedly causing a fatal crash in Taylor has been charged with several felonies related to the death of a 63-year-old man.
Christopher Wayne Nerone was arraigned Monday at 23rd District Court and charged with operating while intoxicated causing death, reckless driving causing death, driving on a revoked license causing death, failure to stop at the scene of an accident causing death, and assaulting/resisting/obstructing a police officer.
The arrest and charging of Nerone stems from a crash that occurred at approximately 3:50 p.m. May 5.
According to police, the 28-year-old Taylor resident was reportedly driving erratically while heading north on Pardee Road. Witnesses said he was speeding and making frequent lane changes.
Nerone, who was driving a Ford Fusion in the area of Pardee between Brest and Goldenridge Street, went into oncoming traffic and struck a Ford Focus head on.
After the crash, witnesses said, the man driving the Fusion stepped out of the car, removed the license plate and ran east from the scene through residential yards. Based on a physical description of the suspect that witnesses provided, officers found Nerone in a wooded area north of Heritage Park and arrested him.
The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.
Nerone’s next court date is scheduled for May 15.
