'Insidious: The Red Door' Teases More Scares in a Post-Credits Scene - Men's Health

Spoilers follow for Insidious 5.

The fifth chapter in the Insidious horror franchise, entitled Insidious: The Red Door, is out now, drawing fans back into the paranormal world of troubled Lambert family and the chilling spirits who reside in "the Further."

While the third and fourth Insidious movies were both technically prequels which helped to expand and explain some of the supernatural lore of the series, The Red Door takes place in the present day, with a now-teenage Dalton (Ty Simpkins) starting college while his father Josh (Patrick Wilson) grapples with his repressed memories of the horrifying events of the first two films. Rose Byrne also returns as Josh's estranged wife Renai, and Lin Shaye reprises the role of psychic Elise Rainier in a surprise cameo. Most significantly to fans of the original, Joseph Bishara is back as the terrifying red-faced demon.

While there are monsters aplenty in Insidious: The Red Door, the film is just as much an exploration of familial trauma as it is a traditional jump-scare-fest, and the story's stakes really lie in whether or not the Lamberts can ever move on from what happened to them—should they survive this latest encounter with the Further.

Does Insidious: The Red Door have a post-credits scene?

There sure is one reason for die-hard fans of the Insidious franchise to stay seated until the lights come on in the theater.

After the end credits have rolled (to an evocative cover of the Shakespear's Sister gothic classic "Stay" by the Swedish band Ghost, featuring vocals from Patrick Wilson himself), viewers get one last glimpse of the titular red door. The light above it begins to flicker, hinting that the portal to the Further is not quite as sealed as we thought.

However, while this brief stinger definitely teases future installments in the series, franchise producer Jason Blum has definitely stated that this is the end of the road for the Lamberts.

"You better see this Insidious, it’s the last one!" He told Discussing Film. "To give a more serious answer, [The Red Door] is going to be the last we’re going to see of Insidious for a while. It may not be a forever rest, but it’s certainly going to be a very long rest. So, if someone comes up with some idea in 10 years, who knows? But there’s not a plan – as there has been with every prior Insidious movie – there’s no current plan in place for number six."

However, that doesn't mean Blumhouse is done with the universe of Insidious altogether. A spinoff movie entitled Thread: An Insidious Tale is currently in pre-production, to be directed by Moon Knight and Umbrella Academy writer/producer Jeremy Slater. It will diverge from the narrative of the main series, and focus on new characters to be played by Mandy Moore and Kumail Nanjiani.
