FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — A large police presence has been in a Fayetteville neighborhood for days as officers and the Crisis Negotiation Team attempt to serve commitment papers to a barricaded man.
Police say members of the Emergency Response Team are also on the scene to ensure the safety and security of officers and neighbors.
The large law enforcement response is happening in the area of Reilly Road around the Loch Lomond neighborhood.
Neighbors tell WRAL News the standoff has lasted several days.
"A strong police presence is expected until paperwork can be served," said Fayetteville police on social media in a post from 8:09 p.m. on Saturday.
Some people are responding to the police's post claiming to live nearby, describing how scary the situation is and thanking the officers for their work.
One comment said as of 6:30 a.m. on Sunday the situation was still ongoing.
