A 911 call. Two adults and a dog shot dead. Three children hiding in a bedroom, with two of them suffering from gunshot wounds.
That was the grisly scene police encountered in the entryway of a multifamily home at 174 Berkshire Ave. in Springfield on Monday afternoon. An upstairs neighbor, Victor Nieves, 34, turned the gun on himself, after killing the children’s grandmother and their pet, then opening fire on the children, according to Hampden District Attorney Anthony Gulluni.
