State police are searching for the driver of a sedan who fled the scene of a fatal crash with a tractor-trailer early Sunday on Interstate 95 in Prince William County.
At 5:08 a.m., state police were called to the wreck in the southbound lanes of I-95 near the 156 mile marker near Prince William Parkway.
The impact of the crash caused the tractor-trailer to strike the pillar supporting the flyover ramp, which caused the trailer to rip open and lose its contents, state police spokeswoman Corinne Geller said.
While the driver of the sedan was being treated by medics at the scene, he left the ambulance and fled on foot, Geller said. State police are following up on several leads regarding his location.
The driver of the tractor-trailer, an adult male, died at the scene. State police is still in the process of notifying his next of kin, Geller said.
Several lanes of southbound I-95 were closed through early afternoon due to the crash.
