WEST, Texas (KWTX) - Jessica Leigh Sliva, 35, is charged with resisting arrest, assault of a peace officer, and assault of a public servant after she attacked two first responders and a Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) trooper at the scene of a car wreck, arrest warrants state.
The incident happened on Feb. 6 in the northbound lanes of I-35 near mile marker 347 in McLennan County.
The DPS trooper arrived at the scene to investigate a single-vehicle car wreck when a witness told him that the woman who had just crashed into the mud in the median nearly struck his vehicle on the interstate.
The trooper approached the vehicle and met with a woman who would not speak to him and appeared to be delirious, the arrest warrants state. The trooper requested emergency medical technicians (EMT) at the scene in case the woman was suffering a medical emergency.
When EMTs arrived and began approaching the wrecked car, the DPS trooper warned them that the woman inside had recently been arrested for resisting arrest.
According to the warrants, the trooper noticed Sliva crawled out of the passenger side window and grabbed one of the EMTs by the neck.
“She began choking him and screaming. I got to the car and pulled Sliva trough the passenger window and was able to pry her hands off the EMT’s neck and placed her in handcuffs,” the trooper wrote in the arrest warrant.
As the trooper took Sliva to the front of his patrol unit, the woman allegedly continued screaming and spitting in the faces of the EMTs as they attempted to examine her for any injuries.
The trooper placed the woman in the front of his patrol unit and secured her with the seatbelt, but moments later, the woman allegedly began kicking the laptop screen, the in-car video system, the windshield and the passenger window.
The EMTs managed to tie the woman’s legs, and as they attempted to place her in the back of the patrol unit, the woman kicked the trooper on his left knee and attempted to bite his left forearm, the warrant states.
A sheriff’s deputy arrived at the scene and secured the woman in a cage inside another patrol unit.
During a search of the wrecked car, the state trooper located Promethazine pills, Suboxone tabs, among other pills, the arrest warrant states.
Sliva was still being held at the McLennan County Jail Wednesday afternoon.
