Essex County authorities have charged a Burlington County man in a Valentine’s Day hit-and-run crash that killed a man and injured a woman in Nutley.
Dhkir Robinson, 42, of Lumberton is charged with leaving the scene of a fatal accident, operating a vehicle with a suspended license in an incident resulting in death, and endangering an injured victim, the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office announced.
The two victims were struck just before 7 p.m., on Feb. 14 while on the 100 block of Milton Avenue, near a Garden State Parkway overpass, the office said in a statement.
Wiston Perlaza, 22, of Paterson, was pronounced dead at the scene. A second pedestrian was taken to a local hospital and treated for non-fatal injuries.
Perlaza, known by the nickname Bebe, was just a few days away from celebrating his 23rd birthday when he was killed, according to information posted on a GoFundMe page to help his family pay for funeral expenses. As of Sunday, it has raised $17,000 of a $20,000 goal.
The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information can call the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office tips line at 1-877-TIPS-4EC or 1-877-847-7432. Calls will be kept confidential.
