ALLEGHANY COUNTY, Va. (WDBJ) - The Alleghany County Sheriff’s Chief Deputy has resigned after leaving the scene of a car crash without reporting it.
Chief Deputy Chad Wickline was involved in a car crash in the early morning hours of April 13 on I-64. There were no injuries, passengers or other people involved in the crash, according to the Alleghany County Sheriff’s Office.
Sheriff Kyle Moore said he was notified by Chief Deputy Wickline about the incident on April 15. Sheriff Moore immediately advised Wickline to contact Virginia State Police and report the crash.
The sheriff’s office said after the investigation was completed, Sheriff Moore was made aware that charges are pending against Wickline.
Wickline chose to resign from his position of Chief Deputy.
“The Alleghany County Sheriff’s Office and Regional Jail want to wish Chad all the best in life and we are praying for him and his family during this difficult time,” Sheriff Moore said.
WDBJ7 asked if alcohol was a factor in the crash. The sheriff’s office told us those details are unknown, and said Wickline has denied alcohol was involved.
