INDIANAPOLIS — It was just after midnight on May 6, 2023, when 27-year-old Darian Wiley and 24-year-old Olivia Brown were shot in cold blood during what’s believed to be a botched robbery.
It happened in the Kennedy-King neighborhood near 21st Street and Central Avenue.
New surveillance video obtained by FOX59/CBS4 shows the moments that led up to that double killing.
It captures Wiley walking Brown to her car that was parked on the street. Just a few minutes later, two hooded men can be seen following them. The video then shows the two hooded men run from the scene.
Who those hooded men are remains a mystery.
“It was just senseless what happened,” Darian’s father, Darrel Hutchinson, said.
You could hear the pain in Hutchinson’s voice as he stood in the area where his son was murdered one year ago. This past year has been the toughest thing he’s ever gone through.
“Without the support system that I have, it would’ve been a lot tougher,” Hutchinson said through tears.
He described his son as kind, respectful, a go-getter and a friend to so many.
“He was very energetic. He liked to have fun. We’re no longer going to have that,” Darian’s stepmother, Betricka Howard Hutchinson, said. “They have taken…they took something precious away from us.”
His stepmother said his impact during his short life was profound. Her shirt bears a picture of her and Darian on the day he graduated from Arsenal Technical High School.
It was just last month that the school handed out the first ever “Darian Wiley Mentor of the Year Award” that was named in his honor.
However, she said it’s still no consolation for no longer having Darian here.
Now the family is focused on getting justice for him. They’re calling on the killer(s) to come forward and would like anyone who knows anything to speak with detectives.
“The people who did this, I am praying for them too,” Darian’s father said. “I pray for them too because they are going to have to answer to our father eventually.”
IMPD said Monday there were no major updates to share in the case.
