House of the Dragon's Olivia Cooke Details Sex Scene Cut from Show - PEOPLE

While sex scenes may not be new to Game of Thrones fans, Olivia Cooke is dishing on a particularly graphic scene she was sad to learn was cut from the spinoff series.

The actress, 30, who takes on the role of Alicent Hightower in House of The Dragon, opened up about an "animalistic" sex scene she filmed that was ultimately snipped from the series' final cut.

“It was messy as f---. It wasn’t beautiful, and that was really fun to do," she told Elle, describing the "carnal" nature of the scene. “I think Ryan [Condal, the showrunner] said we weren’t learning any more about the characters, which I disagree with slightly, but it’s okay. It’s his show."

Though she may have been disappointed with the decision, Cooke shared that she had no hard feelings and joked that fans may get to see it in a blooper reel.

In the season 2 premiere of the Game of Thrones spinoff, Alicent fully leans into her carnal impulses with Fabien Frankel's Criston Cole. While viewers can expect to see more spicy moments in the upcoming season, Cooke confessed that she appreciated how intentional producers were with her character's most intimate scenes.

“I thought there’d be way more, and so I’m relieved that when it has been used for me, it’s showing Alicent being pleasured, which is amazing and doesn’t feel gratuitous,” she said of the sex scenes. “It feels like we’re telling a story."

Season 2 will see the Targaryen's descend into the civil war that George R.R. Martin's Fire & Blood novel details, as the "Greens" sit on the Iron Throne and the "Blacks" vie for it.

It picks up following the devastating events of the season 1 finale, which saw Rhaenyra (Emma D'Arcy)'s son, Lucerys (Elliot Grihault) and his dragon killed by Aemond (Ewan Mitchell). The loss is war-igniting for Rhaenyra, who was already enraged by her half-brother Aegon (Tom Glynn-Carney)'s wrongful ascension to the throne following the death of King Viserys (Paddy Considine).

The season 2 premiere of House of the Dragon ended with a bang as the two men Daemon Targaryen (Matt Smith), Rhaenyra's husband and uncle, had enlisted to kill Aemond ended up slaughtering the heir to the Iron Throne.

When asked if his character Aegon will be out for blood following the death of his son, Jaehaerys Targaryen, Glynn-Carney told PEOPLE, "Look, when something as tragic as a tragic thing happens, it leaves a stain on a human being to the point of probably no return."

The 29-year-old actor continued, "It's a dangerous thing to happen to a very vulnerable and fragile and volatile human being."
