LEXINGTON, Ky. (FOX 56) — Officials confirmed that I-75 has reopened after an “active police scene” that started Monday morning.
Around 10:40 a.m., the Lexington Police Department said on X that north and southbound I-75 at Winchester Road and the I-64 ramp were closed due to an active police scene. The Lexington Traffic Management Center reported that Exit 110 and Exit 113, along with parts of Bryan Station Road, were also closed.
Anyone traveling in the area was advised to expect delays and, if possible, to avoid the area and consider a different route.
Police provided an update on X around 1:40 p.m., saying they were called around 9:42 a.m. to the Bryan Station Road overpass after receiving word of an armed suicidal individual. Officials said the person had fired shots, but there have been no injuries reported.
The department shared the following detours:
- Northbound I-75 is shut down at Winchester Road. A detour is in place to take motorists to New Circle Road and then North Broadway, where they can re-enter I-75 at exit 113.
- Southbound I-75 is shut down at North Broadway. A detour is in place to take motorists from North Broadway to New Circle, where they can re-enter I-75 at exit 110.
Around 2:30 p.m., Lexington police said I-75 had reopened in both directions, but until traffic issues were resolved, drivers should avoid New Circle Road and I-75 between mile markers 111 and 113.
In a 3:50 p.m. update, the Lexington Police Department said, “The male subject discharged his firearm, striking himself.” He was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. No officers fired shots.
