Investigators testify about Karen Read's car, crime scene
WHAT DID HE HAVE TO SAY? WELL, JESSICA, THAT WITNESS WAS ON THE STAND FOR TWO HOURS TALKING ABOUT THE STEPS THAT WERE TAKEN TO SEARCH THROUGH THE SNOW FOR THAT EVIDENCE. NOW, THE WITNESSES, LIEUTENANT KEVIN O’HARA IS A MEMBER OF THE MASSACHUSETTS STATE POLICE SPECIAL EMERGENCY RESPONSE TEAM. LIEUTENANT O’HARA TESTIFIED THAT CERT WAS REQUESTED TO HELP SEARCH THROUGH THE SNOW OUTSIDE THE HOME ON FAIRVIEW ROAD, WHERE JOHN O’KEEFE’S BODY WAS FOUND. THE PROSECUTION ENTERED INTO EVIDENCE. PHOTOS FROM THAT SEARCH, INCLUDING PIECES OF TAIL LIGHT AND A BLACK SNEAKER FOUND AT THE SCENE. BUT ON CROSS-EXAMINATION, THE DEFENSE QUESTIONED LIEUTENANT O’HARA ABOUT THE TIMING OF THAT SEARCH. MORE THAN TEN HOURS AFTER O’KEEFE’S BODY WAS FOUND IN O’HARA’S INTERACTION WITH LIEUTENANT BRIAN TULLY FROM THE MASSACHUSETTS STATE POLICE, WHO IS ALSO IN CHARGE OF THE NORFOLK COUNTY STATE POLICE DETECTIVES UNIT, WHICH IS ATTACHED TO THE NORFOLK COUNTY DA’S OFFICE, WHO INITIALLY CALLED O’HARA REQUEST CERTS, HELP. TULLY HAD INFORMED US THAT THE VICTIM IN THIS CASE WAS STRUCK BY A VEHICLE. HE BELIEVED THERE WOULD BE BROKEN PIECES OF TILE RIGHT IN THE AREA. HE ALSO STATED THE VICTIM WAS MISSING HIS SNEAKER AT THE TIME THAT LIEUTENANT TULLY FIRST CALLED, YOU WERE YOU AWARE THAT NO ONE FROM LAW ENFORCEMENT WAS CONTROLLING THAT CRIME SCENE? OBJECTION. I’LL ALLOW IT. I WAS NOT AWARE OF THAT. NO, SIR. NOW, THE PROSECUTION’S NEXT WITNESS THIS MORNING IS MAUREEN HARNETT, A FORENSIC SCIENTIST WITH THE MASSACHUSETTS STATE POLICE CRIME LAB WHO PHOTOGRAPHED KAREN REID’S BLACK LEXUS SUV ON FEBRUARY SECOND AFTER IT WAS TAKEN TO THE CANTON POLICE DEPARTMENT. HARTNETT TESTIFIED THAT SHE SAW A DENT ON THE TRUNK, A BROKEN TAILLIGHT AND WHAT APPEARED TO BE HUMAN HAIR ON THE REAR OF THE CAR. NOW, HARTNETT IS ON THE STAND RIGHT NOW.
