Red, White And Royal Blue Releases Deleted Scene That'll Please Book Fans - Yahoo Entertainment

When Red, White, and Royal Blue was released on Prime Video on August 10th, fans were quick to notice that a beloved moment from the book that was included in the trailer was missing from the final cut. They eventually spent a week pestering director Michael López and the movie’s official Twitter account as a result. Well, anyone who was part of that campaign can breathe a sigh of relief. The powers that be gave in and released the deleted scene to celebrate the critically lauded LGBTQ rom-com becoming the streamer's No. 1 movie worldwide.

For context, the cut scene takes place at Kennington Palace hours after Alex Claremont-Diaz is flown back to England after the “Cakegate” disaster. Said incident left him and His Royal Highness Prince Henry covered in a $75,000 cake at Prince Phillip’s royal wedding. In the footage, Alex is FaceTiming his best friend, Nora, to vent about Prince Henry. Check it out:

As a massive fan of the book (seriously, I have multiple annotated copies), I was glad Prime Video decided to share the footage. That's especially because it stayed pretty true to the scene originally written by Casey McQuiston for the book. Plus, it’s fun watching Alex and Henry navigate their alleged hate for each other while shamelessly bantering and flirting.

I mean, who doesn’t want to watch a confident Alex tease Henry every chance he gets? No matter how hard he tries to deny it, even Henry can’t help but fall victim to Alex’s annoying charm. In fact, the omitted moment might be the first time fans get a sense of Henry’s true feelings since his face softens after Alex creates the iconic social media post.

While it’s nice to see the deleted “Cornetto Scene” (as fans have affectionally dubbed it) get some much-deserved love, I’m still wondering why on Earth they decided to cut it from the final version. It might seem like a simple filler-type of moment to the casual viewer, but die-hard fans like myself understand that it's pivotal in showing Alex and Henry’s early love-hate relationship dynamic.

8 Differences Between The Red, White and Royal Blue Book And The Movie

It also gives much-needed context to a scene that would and should have succeeded it. Without the moment, Red, White and Royal Blue goes straight from Alex’s arrival in London to a hilarious and tense interview montage that sees him and Henry trying to act like best friends. At one point during the aforementioned interview montage, Henry mentions that Alex is extremely loud about his opinions. While the comment sort of makes sense given what the movie has shown about Alex, the sequence's inclusion would've added even more depth since it shows Henry walking in on Alex loudly bad-mouthing him to Nora.

The “Cornetto Scene” seriously would have fit so perfectly into the final cut, and I can’t help but hope it's eventually edited into the movie. Us Red, White and Royal Blue fans are just never satisfied! In fact, many have moved on from the key moment and have started begging Prime Video to release the Kennington Palace breakfast scene that was also featured in the trailer but missing from the movie. Maybe, if the film stays in Prime Video’s top 10 this week, the company will end up releasing that, too. That milestone feels tangible, as the flick is certainly on its way to being considered one of the best romantic comedies of all time.

Until then, I’ll be busy rewatching Red, White and Royal Blue using my Prime Video subscription and pausing at the right moment to watch the “Cornetto Scene” on YouTube!

Red, White & Royal Blue releases deleted Cornetto scene - Digital Spy

Red, White & Royal Blue spoilers follow.

Prime Video has released the 'Cornetto scene' from new film Red, White and Royal Blue.

The deleted scene, which had been a favourite amongst fans of Casey McQuiston's 2019 book, takes place on Presidential son Alex Claremont Diaz's first night at Kensington Palace.

Following the infamous cake incident at a royal wedding earlier in the day, Alex can be heard calling Prince Henry "insufferable" on the phone, which is then overheard by his counterpart as he walks in to steal some ice-cream.

The Prince then questions him on whether he's willing to take feigning friendship seriously, leading to Alex using the ice-creams to make a staged friendship post on Instagram.

Director Matthew López had previously explained the decision to cut the popular scene in a conversation with The Messenger, revealing he had been "ruthless" when adapting the novel.

"The Cornetto scene actually slowed down the rhythm and the trajectory, so I took it out. I love the scene," he said. "We had to kill a lot of darlings as we were putting this together. I was pretty ruthless because I had to be... There are some really great scenes that we shot, and some of the scenes that are in the book that we shot, and I looked at the movie and said: 'We don't need it'."

The Cornetto scene isn't the only moment from the book which had been changed during its on-screen translation.

While the film's ending is still in-keeping with the book, key moments and characters such as Alex's older sister June, President Ellen's reaction to her son's sexuality and the Star Wars mural, were all either cut or changed.

Red, White & Royal Blue is now available to watch on Prime Video.

TV tonight: a gripping history of the game-changing grime scene - The Guardian

Storyville: 8 Bar – The Evolution of Grime

10pm, BBC Four

Variants of grime underpin much of the most distinctive Black British music of the past decade. This is an entertaining potted guide, tracing the scene’s origins in jungle and UK garage and its commercially successful aftermath. Grime was incredibly localised so the story is also a social history of post-millennial east London – from pirate DJ Slimzee getting an asbo banning him from the rooftops of Tower Hamlets to thrilling footage of live events, it’s an evocative snapshot of a moment in time. Phil Harrison

Bake Off: The Professionals

8pm, Channel 4

It is time for the quarter-finals, and Cherish Finden’s standards are more exacting than ever. “If the chefs cannot make a perfect laminated puff pastry, they should get out of my kitchen,” she warns before the Viennoiserie-themed challenge. Katie Rosseinsky

Ultimate Wedding Planner

9pm, BBC Two

“I want a champagne wedding,” says Lauren, “on a lager budget!” This is the conundrum facing the planners in the third episode of this slight but fun series. Lauren and Jodie are the intrepid (and demanding) couple placing their nuptials in the hands of the increasingly frazzled team. It goes down to the wire. PH

Emergency

9pm, Channel 4

More hardcore medical telly that is frequently revelatory and best watched through the fingers. In this instalment, Karl is being kept alive by a ventilator after injuries sustained in a traffic accident and June suffers from a horrific open fracture to her ankle. Recommended, but get your tea out of the way first. PH

Dan & Helen’s Pennine Adventure

9pm, Channel 5

Nice day for a black pudding: friends Dan Walker and Helen Skelton continue their journey from Sheffield to Cumbria, making their way through the mill country of the south Pennines. That means clogs, canal boats and an attempt to cook up a Lancashire delicacy. Graeme Virtue

Henpocalypse!

10pm, BBC Two

The hen party are coming to terms with their situation as this periodically amusing post-apocalyptic sitcom continues. In fact, Elizabeth Berrington’s Bernadette is beginning to see a few upsides. Look out for a cameo from a bona fide national treasure dispensing practical advice. PH

Scene and Heard - Soap Opera Digest

Finola Hughes (Anna, GH) is thrilled that her current storyline is giving her more chances to work opposite Maurice Benard (Sonny) and Dominic Zamprogna (Dante). “I am loving working with Mo and Dominic,” she enthuses. “Maurice and I have had several great scenes together now, and Dom and I spent a day doing three shows together, back-to-back, and it was just really great. He is so good. He’s just such an excellent actor, and obviously, Maurice is amazing, too. I learn so much from them, actually. It just helps me find areas of myself when I’m onstage with either of of them and it’s been really cool, I must say. It’s the same with James [Patrick Stuart, Valentin], where you get in a scene and you get lost, like you just kind of get taken over by the scene. Those moments are gold; it’s literally why we do what we do, for those kind of moments. I have that with James, and when I work with Dom and Maurice, I really get lost in the character’s world. They both have such a power to them, you feel so supported by them, and you just kind of get lost; I don’t know how else to put it. It’s been really wonderful.”

Amelia Heinle (Victoria, Y&R) loves any opportunity to work with the Newman family. “It’s absolutely my favorite time,” declares the actress. “I think Melody [Thomas Scott, Nikki], Eric [Braeden, Eric], Joshua [Morrow, Nick], Mark [Grossman, Adam] and I have a really great family dynamic on screen that I think the audience loves. It’s even better when they throw Abby in there, which is a little more rare, but I wish would happen more often so I could work with Melissa [Ordway, Abby]. All of these actors have been playing off of each other for such a long time, that there’s a real chemistry between us that I love.” Unfortunately, there’s a price to be paid for that kind of togetherness. “Whenever we’re together, it’s a given that Eric is going to start giggling and when that happens, he can’t stop,” Heinle sighs. “Joshua likes to wind him up and when we can’t get any work done, he’s like, ‘Who, me? I didn’t do anything.’ ”

DAYS’s Arianne Zucker (Nicole) and fiancé Shawn Christian (ex-Daniel) recently played hosts to GH’s Laura Wright (Carly) and boyfriend Wes Ramsey (ex- Peter), when the couple visited their home base in Lake Tahoe. “Laura and Wes always take these beautiful trips together. They’re adventurous and love hiking,” says Zucker. “Shawn and I were like, ‘If you’re ever up in Tahoe, you have to call us.’ They ended up coming to Tahoe and staying around the lake, so we had a day together. We had a really good time. It was nice to see Laura and Wes outside of work and on vacation. It was lovely.” The foursome has known each other for a while. “Shawn and Laura were friends first, years ago,” explains Zucker. “And Laura and I were friendly. Wes and I became friendly, because he was on DAYS. He had a small role [as Owen in 2009]. Then Shawn and Wes worked together on something in Washington. We kept running into each other more, started hanging out here and there, and kind of slowly built a friendship. They are very sweet, and we’re very like-minded as far as the things we like to do together as couples and family.”

Darin Brooks is happy to be back in the B&B mix as Wyatt after appearing in the Apple TV+ series AMBER BROWN. “I love it,” he says. “I missed it. I missed everybody and it’s nice to come back and play around a little bit.” He’s also thrilled about the amount of scenes he has with on-screen brother Scott Clifton (Liam), discussing the Hope/Thomas drama. “Scott and I love playing a lot of that stuff,” Brooks adds. “We’re brothers on- and off-set. We have fun with our scenes and do lean into that [brotherly dynamic] a lot to just give it an extra flavor for the audience. If we’re having fun doing it, hopefully it translates, and I think it has been, so that’s kind of nice.” Clifton also appreciates working together more. “Darin and I are really, really grateful for it,” he echoes. “I would personally love for him to get more involved and have more. Darin comes from a school of acting where scene study is really important and he’s trained to find these moments of motivation that really just make a scene interesting.”

21 Songs That Automatically Make Me Think Of One Specific Movie Scene - CinemaBlend

Music transforms movies. I’m not talking about the score, or songs written for movies like anything Lin-Manuel Miranda does, but the great songs that when you hear them later on the radio or on Spotify, you can’t help but immediately think of a scene from the movie they made better and more memorable. These are the 21 movie songs that I can only associate with a specific scene in a movie.

Sarah Michelle Gellar in Cruel Intentions

Bittersweet Symphony - Kathryn Gets Busted In Cruel Intentions

I’ll start here because the scene is just so fantastic. The building momentum of the strings in The Verve’s “Bittersweet Symphony” fits so well with the slow reveal of Kathryn (Sarah Michelle Gellar) getting her mean girl life turned completely on its head in Cruel Intentions. Not only is her reputation completely trashed, but she’s busted with the cocaine in her crucifix. I could watch the scene over and over with that music. It's a good thing the production paid the insane amount of money they did for the song; nothing else would've worked.

Edward Norton and Helena Bonham Carter in Fight Club

Where Is My Mind - The End Of Fight Club

A perfect example of a classic track, in this case it's The Pixies’ “Where Is My Mind” blending into a dramatic scene that elevates the moment to new heights at the end of Fight Club. As the walls literally come down around The Narrator (Edward Norton) and Marla (Helena Bonham Carter), he tells her she’s met him at a very strange time in his life, as Pixies lead singer Black Francis asks everyone “Where is my mind?” Unless you see it in China, where the movie ends very differently.

Frank Sivero in GoodFellas

Layla - Covering Up The Heist In GoodFellas

“Layla,” by Derek and the Dominos was almost 20 years old when GoodFellas was released in 1990, but it still ends up in what I think is actually the best use of a popular song in a movie. In case you’ve forgotten, Jimmy (Robert DeNiro) is cutting all ties between him and the others involved in the Lufthansa heist. One by one, bodies are discovered in a montage as the piano-and-guitar coda of “Layla” plays over it. It almost makes murder look cool.

Groot in Guardians of the Galaxy

Mr. Blue Sky - Opening Scene Of Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2

There are a whole bunch of music moments from Guardians of the Galaxy I could choose from the trilogy, as songs are, of course, a key component of the storytelling. For this list, I’ve chosen “Mr. Blue Sky” by the great Electric Light Orchestra that opens Vol. 2. It sets the tone for the movie perfectly. These movies are most of all about having fun, and there’s nothing more fun than this opening scene, and when I hear the tune, I always see Groot dancing.

Giancarlo Esposito and others in Do The Right Thing

Fight The Power - Sal Destroys Radio Raheem’s Radio In Do The Right Thing

The use of Public Enemy’s “Fight The Power” in Do The Right Thing is anything but fun. After a long, hot, stressful day, Buggin’ Out (Giancarlo Esposito) and Radio Raheem (Bill Nunn) confront Sal (Danny Aiello) in his pizzeria while blasting the song from the boombox. Not only do the lyrics fit the scene well, but the chaotic nature of it adds a level of desperation to the argument that eventually leads to the tragedy that follows.

Michael Madsen in Reservoir Dogs

Stuck in the Middle With You - Mr. Blonde Cutting A Cop's Ear Off In Reservoir Dogs

Another movie that brilliantly uses music is Reservoir Dogs, and nowhere is that more true than the happy-go-lucky tones of Steelers Wheel’s “Stuck in the Middle With You” during the most violent scene of a very violent movie, when Mr. Blonde (Michael Madsen) cuts off the ear of a cop he’d tied up and tortured. Something about the contrast between the sweet song and the ultra-violence just works.

Buffalo Bill in Silence of the Lambs

Goodbye Horses - Buffalo Bill Getting Dressed In Silence Of The Lambs

There is no way anyone, anywhere, hears the song “Goodbye Horses” by Q Lazzarus and thinks of anything except Buffalo Bill (Ted Levine) getting dressed and dancing in front of the mirror in The Silence of the Lambs. The scene is so iconic that I can’t help but shiver a little when I hear the song, no matter where I am.

Tom Cruise in Risky Business

Old Time Rock And Roll - Tom Cruise Dancing In His Underwear In Risky Business

Bob Seger wrote “Old Time Rock and Roll” in 1979 and it became a moderate hit for him, but it was four years later when it was used as the music Tom Cruise dances in his underwear to in Risky Business that it became an American classic. How many times have you heard it and thought about dancing around in your underwear? I know I have, many times.

Dough Boy in Boyz N the Hood

O-o-h Child - Doughboy Gets Busted In Boyz N The Hood

“O-o-h Child” by the Five Stairsteps is a soul music standard, and when I hear it now, I immediately think about the scene in Boyz N the Hood, when Furious (Laurence Fishburne in a performance that should have gotten him an Oscar) is returning home after a nice day fishing with his son Tre. At first, the song is a nice moment for Furious, but in the context of the movie, it changes almost immediately when they drive by young Dough Boy’s house as he’s getting arrested. Things are going to get better according to the song, but they don’t, really.

The Dazed and Confused cast

Hurricane - Wooderson Walks Into The Emporium In Dazed & Confused

I love Bob Dylan, but now whenever I hear his classic call for justice song, “Hurricane,” I can only think of how cool Wooderson (Matthew McConaughey) and Pink (Jason London) look as they stroll into the Emporium and meet up with the other characters just as the legendary night is getting underway.

John Cusack in Say Anything...

In Your Eyes - Outside The Window In Say Anything

An old crush once asked me if I’d ever stood outside a girl’s window and played a song on a jukebox like Lloyd (John Cusack) does in Say Anything. I told her no, but she would’ve been the first to know if I had. You simply cannot hear Peter Gabriel’s “In Your Eyes” without immediately picturing Lloyd with the radio above his head in front of his Chevy Malibu.

Opening scene of Watchmen

The Times They Are A-Changin - Opening Credits Of Watchmen

I’m not going to debate whether Zach Snyder’s adaption of the graphic novel Watchmen is well done or not (it is). What I will debate is how great the opening scene is accompanied by Dylan’s “The Times They Are a-Changin.” 20 years ago it was unthinkable to me that I would think of anything but the 1960s when I heard that song, now all I see is the bloody Smiley Face button.

Dennis Hopper in True Romance

Flower Duet - Clifford’s Death In True Romance

The most powerful use of music on this list comes from one of the best scenes in movie history. It’s when the “Flower Duet,” from the Léo Delibes opera Lakmé, is played over the True Romance scene between Dennis Hopper and Christopher Walken. The music swells as Hopper realizes that no matter what, this confrontation is going to lead to his death. It is an immensely commanding moment and while the music may be over 100 years old, it will, at least for me, be forever connected to this one amazing moment.

Christian Bale in American Psycho

Hip To Be Square - Paul Allen’s Murder In American Psycho

Do you like Huey Lewis and the News? If you do, and you’ve never seen American Psycho then you might think twice, because after you do, you will only associate their 1986 hit, “Hip To Square,” with one thing: the murder of Paul Allen (Jared Leto) by Patrick Bateman (Christian Bale). Try getting a reservation at Dorsia now!

Alfred Molina in Boogie Nights

Sister Christian - Drug Deal In Boogie Nights

Maybe the most tense I’ve ever felt from a film scene is in Boogie Nights when Dirk (Mark Wahlberg) and the others attempt to sell fake cocaine to Rahad (Alfred Molina). The stress of the scene, with the fireworks going off and the incredible performance by Molina is enhanced by Night Ranger’s “Sister Christian.” I still get the jitters when I hear the song.

Robert Downey Jr. and Jake Gyllenhaal in Zodiac

Hurdy Gurdy Man - The First Murder Scene In Zodiac

Speaking of getting the willies, Donavan’s “Hurdy Gurdy Man” will never be the same for me after seeing it used in Zodiac. The way the volume rises on the song as the killer’s car approaches the soon-to-be-murdered couple, then fades as it pulls away, to the relief of the couple, only to rise again as he returns. Yikes! Brilliant!

Jeff Bridges in The Big Lebowski

Just Dropped In (To See What Condition My Condition Was In) - Dream Sequence In The Big Lebowski

The Coen brothers are masters of using music to set the tone of their movies. In The Big Lebowski they up the ante by adding two musical vignettes, almost like music videos as dream sequences. The second, with the song “Just Dropped In (To See What Condition My Condition Was In)” has become so classic that when I saw Kenny Rogers in concert (who sings the song with his old band The Third Edition) he even acknowledged it’s what’s made the song so timeless.

Opening scene of Apocalypse Now

The End - Opening Scene Of Apocalypse Now

Francis Ford Coppola’s use of “The End” by The Doors in Apocalypse Now is so evocative, that it’s almost like the song was made for the movie. Of course, it was much older, but the eerie music and the dark lyrics are the perfect accompaniment to the bleak anti-war war film. I can’t hear it today and not hear the helicopter rotors of that opening scene.

Billy Crudup in Almost Famous

Tiny Dancer - The Bus Ride In Almost Famous

“Tiny Dancer” by Elton John is a great song to sing along to. When I’m hitting those high notes all by myself in the car, I feel just like the band Sweetwater in Almost Famous as they travel down the highway on tour in their big bus. It’s just a fun scene after a tense moment, which is perfect for that song.

Emma Stone in Easy A

Pocket Full Of Sunshine - The Opening Scene Of Easy A

In Easy A Olive Penderghast (Emma Stone) declares “Pocket Full of Sunshine” by Natasha Bedingfield to be the “worst song ever” before she hears the earworm of a tune so many times that it becomes her favorite song. That’s kind of exactly how I feel about it, and now when I hear it, the guilty pleasure I enjoy is justified because Olive said it was okay to love it.

Car scene in Wayne's World

Bohemian Rapsody - The Car Ride In Wayne’s World

You knew I couldn’t end this list without including “Bohemian Rhapsody” from Wayne’s World. I’ll fully admit Queen is not my favorite band, and this is not one of my favorite songs, but the scene is so classic that you can’t help but immediately be transported back to seeing it for the first time. Look, see? I’ll bet you’re banging your head right now.

Great film scores transform movies, but nothing transcends like a well-placed classic pop song like the ones on this list. There are so many more songs I could’ve chosen that I could have 100 more entries. Adding the right song at the right time is the easiest way to make me nostalgic for a time and place, and that includes on film and on television, as well.
