The Port of Port Townsend may try to get funding through the Washington State Recreation and Conservation Office to replace approximately 1,035 feet of the linear dock at Boat Haven.
The grant application is set to come before port commissioners during their meeting Wednesday, June 23.
Port officials expect the project could require upwards of $2.6 million in funding to be completed, of which about 44 percent ($1,179,036) would be “grant eligible.” The port would seek some $884,277 through the Boating Infrastructure Grant.
There’s a catch to the application, though.
The majority of the dock replacement is not eligible to be funded under the Boating Infrastructure Grant program, so the port would need to cut a check for the nearly $1.8 million additional cost for the project.
According to the Port of Port Townsend, the section of dock to be replaced was constructed in 1967 and is quickly approaching the end of its useful life.
The proposed project would rebuild the current east-west running section of dock and pilings with modern materials.
If the port’s executive director receives the nod to move forward, an application for the grant will be due by July 7.
Applications may be returned to applicants by the Recreation and Conservation Office for revision and formal submission in August.
Grant awards will be announced spring 2022.
