CLEVELAND, Ohio -- Doesn’t matter if you’ve seen two Marvel films or twenty. The answer to the question in the headline is almost always yes.
Of course, you should stick around after “Black Widow” ends. The more important question: Is this post-credits scene worth the wait?

Marvel practically invented the device, much to the delight of parents of key grips, CGI artists and assistants to Mr. Downey everywhere. But not all are created equal. For every important moment like Nick Fury showing up at the end of “Iron Man” to discuss the Avengers Initiative, there is something as inconsequential as an alien cat vomiting up the Tesseract following “Captain Marvel.”
The post-credit scene in “Black Widow,” which debuts in theaters and on Disney+ with Premier Access on Friday, falls in the must-see category. Spoilers ahead. You’ve been warned.
The scene picks up after the events “Avengers: Endgame.” To refresh your memory, in that movie, Natasha (Scarlett Johansson) and Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner) travel to Vormir to retrieve the Soul Stone, one of six Infinity Stones needed to reverse the snap by Thanos that turned half the population to dust. When the two Avengers arrive, however, they learn they have to sacrifice “a soul for a soul.”
Nat and Clint -- friends since at least the mission in Budapest referenced in both “Marvel’s The Avengers” and “Black Widow” -- fight over which one of them should make the ultimate sacrifice in order to acquire the stone. Eventually, Natasha gets the best of Hawkeye and falls to her death, allowing the Avengers to later defeat Thanos and bring everybody back.
Cut to “Black Widow,” Natasha’s surrogate sister, Yelena (Florence Pugh), arrives at a cemetery to mourn the fallen Avenger and the closest thing to family she had. It’s a truly poignant scene as Yelena stands over the grave, which is covered in tributes to Black Widow. But the quiet moment is interrupted when Contessa Valentina Allegra de Fontaine (Julia Louis-Dreyfus) shows up, offering Yelena a chance to avenge Natasha’s death and then shows her a picture of the man she believes should be held responsible: Hawkeye.
Fade out.
There’s a lot to pack from the scene. First, it allows fans to finally take moment and say their goodbyes to Black Widow. Her death in “Endgame” barely registered a blip, overshadowed by Tony Stark’s own demise. Bring tissues with you.
Marvel frequently uses post-credits scenes to set up its next project. That’s the case here, too. If haven’t already heard, Renner is set to star in his own “Hawkeye” series on Disney+ later this year. Pugh, according to Variety, will appear on that show, presumably to confront Clint about what happened on Vormir.
But perhaps the most interesting part of the scene is Valentina’s role. Louis-Dreyfus made a surprise cameo in “The Falcon and the Winter Soldier” television series, courting disgraced Captain America 2.0, John Walker (Wyatt Russell), to join her mysterious cause. She even gave him a new name -- U.S. Agent -- and a new suit. Just what exactly is Valentina up to? Is she essentially the new Nick Fury, assembling the next generation of Avengers or possibly a new superhero group to rival Earth’s mightiest heroes? Perhaps she has something more sinister up her sleeves.
Stay tuned. Phase Four is just beginning.
