Eye on Art: Lowell art scene thrives with quilts, paintings and mid-summer views - Lowell Sun

Lowell’s galleries and museums are awash with color and seasonal scenes as the pandemic wanes and spaces open up.

Few things say summer more than heading out on a road trip to explore the country – and at the New England Quilt Museum on Shattuck Street you’ll do just that with “Dawn Allen’s Great American Road Trip” on view through July 31.

The show started with quilt artist Allen dreaming about a better car while driving an unreliable auto past its prime. Using her innovative technique for digital painting, Allen creates cars in her art that most folks born after the 1960s can only imagine driving.

Her desire to see America’s natural wonders and explore its scenic byways have fueled her creative ideas about where she might drive these vintage classic and fantasy cars.
