In Port Lavaca the storm had wind gusts of 55 to 65 miles per hour
As what was once a tropical storm later upgraded to a category one hurricane. Nicholas made landfall around 12:30 am early Tuesday morning. We had team coverage in Port Lavaca as the storm passed through
In Port Lavaca the storm had wind gusts of 55 to 65 miles per hour but once it elevated to a category one hurricane there were 75 mile per hour winds with 90 mile per hour gusts as it made its way towards the eastern part of the Matagorda Peninsula making landfall shortly after Midnight. We spoke with some Port Lavaca residents on the storm.
Mia Contreas and Tino Mendoza/Port Lavaca Residents: “I’m from here and honestly I’m not scared, Port Lavaca people were never scared. We’ve seen worse, it’s been worse than this.”
Residents went in and out of the bay area as the storm rolled in. Some residents in Port Lavaca did lose power for a few hours. Port Lavaca managed to avoid getting the brunt of the storm as it moved more off to the northeast before making landfall.
