Dua Lipa Shares Behind-the-Scenes Clips of the Barbie Dance Rehearsals - Harper's BAZAAR

Dua Lipa has shared another behind-the-scenes peek from Barbieland.

Today, the pop star revealed some never-before-seen rehearsal footage from Barbie, in a post celebrating her soundtrack song, "Dance the Night," as the single hit the Top 5 on the U.K. charts. Along with a sentimental caption about the process of creating the track, Lipa shared a compilation clip with dance footage from the record-breaking movie's rehearsals, as well as a portion of the the completed dance scene.

The video begins with a clip of stars Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling practicing their solo parts in the "Dance the Night" and "I'm Just Ken" sequences while wearing all-black ensembles, before showing footage of backup dancers for the party scene and part of the end performance.

"The first thing I saw from the Barbie movie when @iammarkronson asked me to write the song for the big dance scene in the film was the cast dance rehearsals," Lipa explained in the caption. "We then set off with the plan to write a song based on Barbie’s inner thoughts in that very moment on the basis of what was to come next in her story and on the premise of the whole film."

She continued, "Fast forward to seeing the song we wrote together alongside @wyattish and @carolineailin come to life on the big screen was a very surreal moment for me. The song no longer felt like it belonged to me but belonged to Barbie and her perfect/imperfect self. I’m so grateful to all of you dancing at home with us and for Greta and Mark for trusting me with this task!!! Send me your videos of you dancing the night away!!! ๐Ÿ’–๐Ÿ’–๐Ÿ’–๐Ÿ’–๐Ÿ’–๐Ÿ’–"

Last weekend, the singer marked Barbie's opening weekend by sharing a candid group pic from the film's Los Angeles premiere. In the snap, Lipa, Robbie, Gosling, Kate McKinnon, America Ferrera, Issa Rae and several other cast members smile while taking a mirror selfie in what appears to be a restroom at LA's Shrine Auditorium.

MCSO: Man caught after fleeing murder scene in Youngtown - Arizona's Family

YOUNGTOWN, AZ (3TV/CBS 5) — A man is in jail facing multiple felonies after he allegedly shot and killed another man over a stolen backpack in Youngtown on Tuesday. Frank James Harrison was arrested on Thursday around 1 p.m.

According to the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office, the 37-year-old showed up in a gray pickup truck to a home near 111th and Missouri avenues around 2:30 a.m. on Tuesday. Harrison has said he was looking for the person he believed took his backpack. Timothy Dewitt, 41, told Harrison the person he was looking for wasn’t there and that he should leave, but Harrison went back to his truck and got his shotgun, deputies said. Harrison returned and confronted Dewitt.

“I’m going to (expletive) shoot you,” a witness heard Harrison say, according to court paperwork. Dewitt fired his handgun just before Harrison fired his shotgun, MCSO said. Harrison then got into his truck and took off with his girlfriend. Dewitt was taken to the hospital, where he later died.

Deputies learned Harrison had taken his girlfriend’s mother’s truck a couple of days before and didn’t return it. On Thursday morning, deputies found the truck south of Harrison’s house in El Mirage, and he was arrested that afternoon. After originally denying he was in Youngtown, Harrison reportedly told detectives he went to Dewitt’s place because he left a soda on the porch. Then he refused to answer questions.

When detectives left the interview room, MCSO said Harrison walked out of the Major Crimes Division building at 33rd Avenue and Durango Street and ran northeast. He was caught about a half-mile away from the building. He was booked into jail on charges including second-degree murder, aggravated assault, misconduct involving weapons and second-degree escape.

Fire crews still on scene of fire at McCain Foods - KSNB

GRAND ISLAND, Neb. (KSNB) - Firefighters are still working to ensure a fire at the vegetable processing plant in Grand Island is completely out.

According to Grand Island Fire Chief Cory Schmidt, crews were called out to McCain Foods around 5:15 p.m. after a staff member reported the A/C unit on the roof was on fire.

Firefighters scaled the building and quickly extinguished the fire on the roof but it had already extended inside the building. Chief Schmidt said the structure of the roof is making it difficult to give the all-clear since it has several layers, and the fire has worked its way into them.

He said the extreme heat is also posing a challenge for the more than 20 personnel on the scene as they are frequently rotating crews in and out.

Time is of the essence according to the chief, as the power has been shut off to the building until the fire is stopped. This leaves many food items in the refrigerators at risk.

Fortunately, no injuries have been reported by the fire crews, but one staff member of McCain did receive treatment for heat-related issues on the scene.

The cause of the fire is under investigation by the State Fire Marshal.

This is a developing story, stay tuned to Local4 News for updates.

That "Oppenheimer" sex scene speaks to a larger problem with Christopher Nolan's storytelling - Salon

"Oppenheimer" is the summer blockbuster of the year. The visually and sonically compelling film does a lot of things right from examining the existential dread associated with our feeble humanity and analyzing the moral qualms with human ingenuity and its devastating outcomes that showcase we are the culprits of our own destruction.

But it also does some things wrong too. It has a woman problem.

Christopher Nolan's three-hour-long biopic tells the story of the brilliant quantum physicist, J. Robert Oppenheimer (Cillian Murphy) based on the biography "American Prometheus." The Oppenheimer we uncover in Nolan's film stresses that he is a charmer – he's a womanizer. Nolan wants the audience to know that not only is Oppenheimer one of the most important historical figures in the 20th century, but he also can pull a Communist female Stanford grad student.

One of the most polarizing aspects of the film is Oppenheimer's on again, off again relationship with said grad student, Jean Tatlock (Florence Pugh). Some would say the way Nolan portrays the relationship and Jean, and her inevitable death by suicide is indicative of a larger issue with the depiction of women in his films.

In their first encounter, they quickly find themselves in bed together. In a controversial scene, Jean and Oppenheimer are having sex while he reads Bhagavad Gita, a sacred text in Hinduism. He reads the line, "Now I am become death, the destroyer of worlds," during the act itself. Hindu right-wing nationalists called the scene an "attack on Hinduism."

As I was watching the second sex scene with Oppenheimer and Jean, I gasped at how disjointed it felt from the larger story

But that isn't the only sex scene between the two in the film. Further into the behemoth of a film, in McCarthy-era America, a room full of government officials question Oppenheimer's former communist ties. He reveals to the board his previous relationship with Jean and how it evolved into an affair. He's now married to Kitty Oppenheimer (Emily Blunt), who is there in the room as he admits to his extramarital affair.

Nolan portrays this confession in the most blatant way possible. Without warning or explanation, a naked Jean is seen straddling and having sex with Oppenheimer as he sits in the chair being interrogated. Is it his imagination? Is it Nolan's one-the-nose way of showing the impact of the confession? Regardless, the audience sees this as the couple going at it while Oppenheimer is staring at the board of men questioning him. It's creepy. The imaginary Jean even glances directly at his wife – his wife who just found out Oppenheimer had been cheating on her for years. Is this storytelling device attention-grabbing? Absolutely, but not in a good way.

It's vital to point out the flaws in a filmmaker's perspective when it's used to only service a man's story and nothing else. As an audience member, the context of the scene and what it does for the larger narrative matters; it is a part of the moviegoer's entire film experience. And as I was watching the second sex scene with Oppenheimer and Jean, I gasped at how disjointed it felt from the larger story Nolan was attempting to illustrate. Sex scenes aren't inherently controversial, nor do they have to be, especially if they are filmed with appropriate boundaries and respect toward the actors and characters. But in "Oppenheimer" something about the audience watching the sex scene in the same way the characters in the interrogation room watched it – feels icky and voyeuristic. And also puzzling.

"Oppenheimer" is an engrossing film. Its riveting acting and nonlinear storytelling infused with cinematic shots of the galaxy and stars hold the audience in a trance. Well, that is until you watch that ill-advised foray into filmmaking voyeurism. It completely snatches you out of the film and puts you back into your body.

Moreso, the scene wouldn't be so jarring if there wasn't such little Jean in the film. Pugh's talents are wasted as she attempts to embody an emotionally embattled intellectual. Jean is a seemingly dark, unconventional type of woman from the 1940s. She is studying to be a psychiatrist but also struggles with depression, and it was speculated that she was queer. But we don't really receive any of this information from the film. We can tell that she's stubborn, volatile and complicated but we are more or less told that through Oppenheimer's perspective of her as his love interest.

This also counts for his wife, Kitty – another female character with unbridled, untapped potential. But of course, she only exists in the roles of love interest, mother and Oppenheimer's conscience. The film only slightly touches on Kitty's tragic past, potential mental health issues and rejection of motherhood. Thankfully, Blunt's acting makes the role feel fuller than it is written to be.

If we address Nolan's track record with female characters, he is known for two tropes: Dead Wife and Woman in A Refrigerator. Across the filmmaker's extensive work, he has a proclivity for fridging, that is killing off a female love interest – in films like "Memento," "The Prestige," "Inception" and "The Dark Knight" – as an alluring and tragic backstory for his male protagonists just like he did with Jean. Of course, she is based on a real person, but Nolan's treatment of her and her tragic death is the same as if she were fictional. The audience is left with very little understanding of Jean, not even with her tragic death. Instead, her most indelible scenes are as Oppenheimer's sex object or in death, a way to humanize the physicist. (And when Nolan doesn't get around to killing off his female characters, he sidelines them like Kitty or Elizabeth Delicki's character in "Tenet.")

Sure, you can argue the film being named "Oppenheimer" means it's entirely about him, and all the supporting characters should only act to elevate his story. The script was even written in first person to convey that every character is just a piece in Oppenheimer's narrative.

However, just because the story is titled "Oppenheimer" doesn't mean one has to adhere to such tunnel vision in storytelling. Case in point is another film named for a singular person – that came out on the same day as " Oppenheimer" in fact – and proves that argument flimsy at best.

"Barbie" does what "Oppenheimer" fails to do.

"Barbie" follows the journey of the human-sized doll (embodied by Margot Robbie) through her existential awakening, crisis and eventual empowerment. But it also spends a significant chunk of its runtime to give her counterpart Ken (Ryan Gosling) space to explore his "neediness, loneliness and identity crisis." Gary Kramer writes for Salon that Ken "hijack[s] the plot for long stretches and force[s] Barbie to help him, not the reverse."

BarbieMargot Robbie as Barbie and Ryan Gosling as Ken in "Barbie" (Courtesy of Warner Bros. Pictures)Ken is Barbie's accessory boyfriend but he isn't treated as just her accessory boyfriend. In the writing, Greta Gerwig and Noah Baumbach allow Ken ample room for self-discovery. Ken is allowed to explore the human world without the need to be attached to Barbie's hip. He searches for his purpose and identity. He's even given a whole musical dance number to dive into his interiority. "Barbie" does what "Oppenheimer" fails to do. It gives purpose and depth to a supporting character's arc – depth that is entirely crucial to the emotional center, vulnerability and gravitas of a character like Barbie.

Ultimately, Nolan barely scratches the surface with his female ensemble and doesn't do their larger-than-life experiences justice. It just feels like a tired attempt to show us Nolan knows women exist but the catch is they do not exist outside of their relationships to men. (Sorry, Bechdel.) Their pain and suffering are a way to transform a man into the protagonist of his story, not hers.

Bollywood film accused of trivialising Holocaust with Auschwitz scenes - The Guardian

A Bollywood film has been accused of trivialising and demeaning the deaths of millions of Jews killed during the Holocaust by using Auschwitz as a metaphor for relationship problems, with the main character declaring that “we’re all a little like Hitler” during a fantasy scene set in the concentration camp.

Bawaal, which was directed by the well-known Indian film-maker Nitesh Tiwari, tells the story of a history teacher who is embarrassed by his new wife’s epilepsy. As they travel together to Europe to visit historic second world war sites, they fall in love with each other.

However, film critics and Jewish organisations have raised issues about the portrayal of the characters’ visits to some of the most horrific sites of the Holocaust, which are entwined in their love story. The trailer makes reference to the “war within”, and in one scene the couple visit Auschwitz. During the sequence one of them says: “Every relationship goes through its Auschwitz.”

In another fantasy scene in a gas chamber, the couple are pictured in striped pyjamas and the male lead says: “We’re all a little like Hitler, aren’t we?” in reference to people never being satisfied.

The film prompted strong rebuke from the Simon Wiesenthal Centre, an organisation that works to protect the human rights of the Jewish community. The NGO called on Amazon to remove it from the Prime Video streaming platform and to stop “monetising” the Holocaust. Amazon has yet to respond.

Rabbi Abraham Cooper, an associate dean and the director of Global Social Action at the NGO, said: “Auschwitz is not a metaphor. It is the quintessential example of man’s capacity for evil.”

He described Bawaal as a “banal trivialisation of the suffering and systematic murder of millions of victims of the Nazi Holocaust”.

The film has received damning reviews from audiences online, who accused it of “normalising Hitler”. It has also been condemned by film critics. In a one-star Guardian review, Bawaal was described as “misjudged” and in “spectacularly poor taste”.

However, as the reviewer noted, Asian history has long been used or misused as a backdrop for lighter or romantic scenes in western films.

Janhvi Kapoor and Varun Dhawan embrace on a boat on a river with a bridge behind them.

The Nazi atrocities of the second world war and the Holocaust are barely taught in India’s schools. The Holocaust is not mentioned by name in textbooks, and in the past some Indian textbooks glorified Hitler.

Tiwari has defended the film, saying he never intended to be insensitive and that he had used the backdrop of second world war history to bring something new to Indian audiences.

“I am a bit disappointed with the way some people have comprehended it,” he told an online film site. “It would never be my intention to be insensitive in any which way. Don’t we see Ajju and Nisha [characters] getting completely troubled and moved by what they see in Auschwitz? They do.”

The Summer I Turned Pretty Fireplace Scene: Which Episode Is It? - ComingSoon.net

Those trying to hunt down The Summer I Turned Pretty fireplace scene will want to know which episode it is in. Here’s the need-to-know info about the scene that stars Lola Tung as Belly and Christopher Briney as Conrad Fisher.

Which episode is The Summer I Turned Pretty fireplace scene?

The Summer I Turned Pretty fireplace scene takes place during season 2 episode 2.

The episode with the fireplace scene where Belly and Conrad get together is called “Love Scene.” The scene takes place at the 35-minute mark.

For those who don’t want to load up the episode on Amazon Prime Now, the scene has actually been uploaded to YouTube on the official Amazon Prime Video UK channel. We’ve embedded it below:

The video description reads:

“Belly and Conrad find a way to get warm after being out on the beach while it snowed.”

The fireplace scene is clearly a fan-favorite, with many no doubt celebrating Belly and Conrad getting together. Thankfully, for those who want to rewatch the moments by the fireplace over and over again, Amazon has made it easy enough.

Unlike in the books, which sees Belly and Conrad limit their intimacy to just kissing, the TV series implies that the two have sex. This is quite the departure from the books and may surprise fans.

Clearly, author Jenny Han is fine with going in a different direction from her books. While much of the plot is the same between the books and TV show, there are some significant differences like the fireplace scene.

With season 2 episode 2 turning the heat up a notch, there’s sure to be even more passion during the remaining episodes.

Shop the Barbie Movie Pink Birkenstocks Worn by Margot Robbie - Town & Country

Spoilers ahead about the ending of Barbie (2023). If you don't want to be spoiled, turn back now!

At the end of Greta Gerwig's Barbie movie, Stereotypical Barbie (Margot Robbie) tells Barbie creator Ruth Handler (Rhea Perlman) that she doesn't feel like Barbie anymore. She decides to be human, and the final scene finds Barbie in the backseat of Gloria's (America Ferrera) car, wearing a tan blazer. Gloria, her husband (Ferrera's actual husband Ryan Piers Williams), and her daughter Sasha (Ariana Greenblatt) drop Barbie off and wish her luck. We see her step out of the car wearing pink Birkenstocks, and give her name as Barbara Handler, telling the receptionist: "I'm here to see my gynecologist."

That final line is one for the ages—but we're particularly enamored with Barbara's pink Birkenstocks, which represent a twist on Barbie's first journey into the real world. When Barbie first visits Weird Barbie (Kate McKinnon) to find out why her feet are now flat, Weird Barbie gives her the choice of a heel or a Birkenstock sandal—stay in Barbieland or venture to the real world. While Barbie tries to stay, she reluctantly concedes she needs to go to the real world—setting off a journey that brings her to California, and introduces her to Gloria.

The final pink Birkenstock sandals, a nod at the ones Weird Barbie first gives her, shows Barbie/Barbara making her own decision about being in the real world—but putting her own twist on them. Instead of the tan Arizona sandals, she chooses blush pink.

Greta Gerwig On Why She Rejected Idea Of Cutting 'Barbie' Scene With Margot Robbie & Older Woman On The Bench - Deadline

Greta Gerwig had a clear vision for the story she wanted to tell with Barbie and rejected the idea of cutting a scene with Margot Robbie and an older woman on a bench.

When Barbie crosses over to the real world, she comes across an older woman sitting on a bench. As the women exchange glances, Barbie compliments the older woman and tells her she is beautiful. When it was time to edit the film, Gerwig came under pressure to cut that particular scene from the final cut but ultimately opted to keep it.

“I love that scene so much,” Gerwig told Rolling Stone. “And the older woman on the bench is the costume designer Ann Roth. She’s a legend. It’s a cul-de-sac of a moment, in a way — it doesn’t lead anywhere. And in early cuts, looking at the movie, it was suggested, ‘Well, you could cut it. And actually, the story would move on just the same.’ And I said, ‘If I cut the scene, I don’t know what this movie is about.'”

Gerwig said she saw the scene as a “key moment” in Barbie’s journey adding, “To me, this is the heart of the movie. The way Margot plays that moment is so gentle and so unforced. There’s the more outrageous elements in the movie that people say, ‘Oh, my God, I can’t believe Mattel let you do this,’ or, ‘I can’t believe Warner Bros. let you do this.’ But to me, the part that I can’t believe that is still in the movie is this little cul-de-sac that doesn’t lead anywhere — except for, it’s the heart of the movie.”

Barbie is out in theaters now and it also stars Ryan Gosling as Ken, Issa Rae, Kate McKinnon, Simu Liu, America Ferrera, Will Ferrell, Ariana Greenblatt, Emma Mackey, Alexandra Shipp, Michael Cera, Hari Nef, Kingsley Ben-Adir, Rhea Perlman, Ncuti Gatwa, Emerald Fennell, Sharon Rooney, Scott Evans, Ana Cruz Kayne, Connor Swindells, Ritu Arya, Jamie Demetriou and Marisa Abela.

Is There an Oppenheimer End-Credits Scene? After, Post-Credits - STYLECASTER

If you’ve been waiting for this moment for a long time like I have, you might be wondering: does Oppenheimer have an end-credits scene?

Oppenheimer is a mammoth of a film, starring an ensemble cast like Cillian Murphy, Robert Downey Jr., Florence Pugh, Emily Blunt, Jack Quaid, Matt Damon, Rami Malek, and plenty more stars. The biopic is about the scientist J. Robert Oppenheimer who helped propel the Manhattan Project and the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, Japan to end World War II. The film is directed by renowned director Christopher Nolan and the running time is about three hours. To ensure your Barbenheimer experience goes well, here’s if you should stick after the credits as we reveal if Oppenheimer has an end-credits scene.

Does Oppenheimer have an end-credits scene?

Does Oppenheimer have an end-credits scene? No, Oppenheimer doesn’t have an end-credits scene. In fact, none of Christopher Nolan’s films has an end credits scene.

Nolan’s decision to not use an after-credits scene was attributed to a Guardian article in 2014 during the release of Interstellar. “When the studio asked if Snyder would add a comedy coda ending, in the style of Marvel, Nolan’s reply was ‘A real movie wouldn’t do that,'” the publication wrote. Nolan himself disputed it saying, “I would never say someone else’s film isn’t ‘a real film.’ The quote is inaccurate.”

Though it might not have an end-credits scene, Nolan advises the audience to stick around to reflect after Oppenheimer. “Some people leave the movie absolutely devastated,” Nolan said about early screenings to Wired. “They can’t speak. I mean, there’s an element of fear that’s there in the history and there in the underpinnings. But the love of the characters, the love of the relationships, is as strong as I’ve ever done.” Nolan later added, “It is an intense experience because it’s an intense story. I showed it to a filmmaker recently who said it’s kind of a horror movie. I don’t disagree.”

On if he’s proud of the film, he said, “I do now that I—you know, I was relieved to be finished with it, actually. But I enjoy watching the film tremendously. I think you’ll understand when you see the film. It’s a complicated set of feelings to be entertained by awful things, you know? Which is where the horror dimension comes in.”

Nolan teamed up with frequent collaborator Cillian Murphy on Oppenheimer. On their relationship, Murphy told Deadline, “I’d always secretly wanted to play a lead for Chris. I think any actor in the whole world would want to be in a Chris Nolan movie, not to mind play a lead for him, and we have such a long relationship. I mean, it’s 20 years. It was 2003 that I first met him, so (laughs) it makes us old – it’s a long time.”

He continued, “He’s not the sort of person that would call me up and talk and shoot the shit. He’s just working and it just felt right this one – and maybe there was some sort of physical resemblance, I don’t know. People seem to think there was,  but he just seemed to think that the time was right.”

On his approach to working with actors, Nolan told The Hollywood Reporter, “People will say, ‘Why do you work in secrecy?’ Well, it’s not secrecy, it’s privacy. It’s being able to try things, to make mistakes, to be as adventurous as possible. And to be able to sit with somebody who’s just read what you’ve written and get their take on it, see how they connect with it in a very human, face-to-face way.” Robert Downey Jr. went to Nolan’s home in L.A. to read the script. “I was like, ‘Wow,’ ” Downey told the site. “And he was like, ‘So will you do it?’ I was like, ‘Uh, usually, there’s 38 phone calls.’ But he’s Chris Nolan. So I was like, ‘Yeah, I think I will.’ ”

The Tenet director also had his favorite collaborators in mind when writing the script. “I’ve been staring at the cover of the book American Prometheus for so many months, and there’s this photograph, black and white, a light blue-eyed stare, very intense, of this guy,” Nolan said comparing Oppenheimer to Murphy. “And I thought, ‘Well, I know who could do that.’ ”

Emily Blunt gushed over working with The Dark Knight director and would have answered a call from him in a heartbeat. “It’s so pulsating when you know he wants to meet you,” she told Collider. “It’s the best feeling ever because he’s so extraordinary, he’s of such vast talent and ability, you know you’re going to be a part of a film that is lasting. In whatever capacity that is. So, I was thrilled to meet him. He’s just a cool guy, as well. We talked for hours even before he gave me the script. I went to his living room and I read the script, then we talked more afterwards. I think that’s what I love most about him, the curiosity in the process, the passion for it, the passion for actors and what you need, and to take away all the chaos from you even though I’m sure to keep all the plates in the air of shooting a film of this scale, he must have had endless plates in the air. He must have had a hurricane going on inside of him throughout the whole process.”

Matt Damon concurred, “It’s the biggest story of our lives, maybe in the history of the human species so far, told by a director who’s at the absolute top of his game, with one of the great screen performances at the center of it. Chris always said to us when we were making it, “I need you guys in support.” That’s the mission, basically, is supporting Cillian [Murphy]. This whole movie hinges on that performance. It’ll resonate emotionally if we’re with that character. He wrote the script in the first-person, which I’d never seen before. So, instead of saying, ‘Oppenheimer walked across the room,’ it’s, ‘I walk across the room.’ It just ripped you into that world, and given what’s at stake, there’s not a more important story out there.”

The definitive biography of J. Robert Oppenheimer, one of the iconic figures of the twentieth century, a brilliant physicist who led the effort to build the atomic bomb for his country in a time of war, and who later found himself confronting the moral consequences of scientific progress. In this magisterial, acclaimed biography twenty-five years in the making, Kai Bird and Martin Sherwin capture Oppenheimer’s life and times, from his early career to his central role in the Cold War. This is biography and history at its finest, riveting and deeply informative. See why the New York Times says it’s “a work of voluminous scholarship and lucid insight, unifying its multifaceted portrait with a keen grasp of Oppenheimer’s essential nature… It succeeds in deeply fathoming his most damaging, self-contradictory behavior.”
