Two arrested after fleeing scene: narcotics, suspended license - FOX 59 Indianapolis

COLUMBUS, Ind. — The Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Office arrested two individuals on charges of narcotics and driving with a suspended license after they fled the scene on Thursday.

Sarah Caffee, 32, a Columbus resident, was booked into the Bartholomew County Jail and faces the following charges:

  • Resisting law enforcement knowingly
  • Resisting law enforcement with a vehicle (a level 6 felony)
  • Possession of Paraphernalia
  • Driving while suspended
  • Unlawful possession of a syringe (a level 6 felony)
  • Possession of a narcotic drug (a level 6 felony)
  • Unlawful possession or use of a legend drug (a level 6 felony)
  • Possession of cocaine (a level 6 felony)

Donovan Martin, 27, a Columbus resident, was also booked into the Bartholomew County Jail and faces the following charges:

  • Possession of a narcotic drug (a level 6 felony)
  • Possession of paraphernalia
  • Knowingly or intentionally operating a motor vehicle without ever receiving a license

According to a press release from the BSCO, an officer recognized the driver, and the deputy already knew that her driving privileges were suspended, which led him to initiate the traffic stop on the vehicle.

The vehicle failed to stop and fled for several blocks before stopping. The two occupants then fled on foot.

Caffee was located nearby on Newton Street and was taken into custody without incident. Martin was also found nearby and taken into custody shortly thereafter, the police report states.

Law enforcement noted that they searched the vehicle, and found both narcotics and paraphernalia. The police report adds that drugs and drug paraphernalia were also found on the foot pursuit, which Martin had dropped.

According to Caffee, she did not stop the vehicle because Martin threatened her with a handgun and instructed her to drive on. However, the police report states that no firearms were found within the vehicle nor in the area of the foot pursuits.

Caffee remains in custody of the Sheriff’s Office on a $10,000 bond, and Martin remains on a 72 hour hold.

This is a preliminary investigation and is subject to change.
